Baltimore is the #1 City for Women in Business

Baltimore is the top city in the U.S. for businesswomen, according to a new report by Citrix, a company that creates digital workspace technology. Analyzing several ranking factors for the 50 largest U.S. cities, Citrix created the Businesswomen Power City Index, which determines the best cities for women to achieve business success.

The index ranks cities based on the following factors:

  • Buying power of women, which is based on the cost of living and the average wages earned by women (Baltimore: 123.4, 1st overall)
  • % of women-owned businesses (Baltimore: 23.3%, 10th overall)
  •  % of women business executives (Baltimore: 31.3%, 10th overall)
  • Wage gap between women and men (Baltimore: 18.2%, 26th overall)

Heather Garner, owner of Garnering Change Psychotherapy, told Citrix some reasons why Baltimore is a great city in which to work, referencing its size, location, and supportive business community.

“With a smaller population than cities close by, and so many unique communities and groups here in Baltimore, networking is super easy, and word-of-mouth referrals are often the bread and butter of small businesses,” Garner said. “We don’t call it ‘Smalltimore’ for nothing! The business communities here in Baltimore are very active and are often willing to help out newcomers.”

Michigan Friday: No Game Preview Today

As we all know, Michigan is on a bye weekend or what Jimmy likes to call an improvement week.   Which means no game for the Wolverines as they prepare to meet the Spartans at night at the Big House next Saturday.   Speaking of night games, the Freep had a great Bo quote about start times:  “We used to tell the TV stations that we’re going to tee the ball up at one o’clock. If you want to come down and take your little pictures, feel free.”

Love it Bo!  If your wondering what Jimmy thinks, here is his quote from Monday's Press Conference:

“Yeah, I prefer they’re kicked off at 12 o’clock, 1 o’clock on a Saturday afternoon.”

Why is that?
“It most appeals to my football sensibility. Just a personal thought there. Definitely not Fridays, not Thursday, not Wednesdays, not Tuesday or Mondays or Sundays in college football. Saturday, prefer the 1 o’clock kickoff but understand that there’s 3:30 kickoffs, there’s 4 o’clock kickoffs, there’s 7:30 kickoffs, et cetera. We’ll get ourselves prepared.”

  • Jay Harbaugh was out to see the game of 2019 5-star RB Quavaris Crouch last night.

  • German and Gemon Green the twins that are committed to Michigan will take their official visit for the MSU game next weekend.

  • Urban Meyer came out against coaches lying to the NCAA and said they should not be allowed to ever coach again in college football.  Funny, he said that, since he got his current job at OSU because the coach lied to the NCAA.

Big Ten Preview Week 5

This is the second week in a row where there really isn't many good Big Ten Match-ups.  This week finally has just Big Ten vs Big Ten match ups.  Let's take a look at all of them.

Big Ten Game of The Week:

Iowa at MSU:  ABC really wants MSU to win this game so they can promote the Michigan - MSU night game next week.   Both teams are coming off home loses with Iowa losing to Penn State at the buzzer and ND running over MSU in East Lansing.  MSU is a -3 favorite, which doesn't make too much sense to me other then Iowa doesn't play well on the road.   Iowa 24 MSU 17

IU at Penn State:  If this game was in Bloomington, I would have PSU on upset alert.    Penn State is -18 in this one and Barkley will probably have 400 total yards.  IU can score and this could be a shoot out.  PSU 40 IU 31

Maryland at Minnesota:  Maryland beat Texas in week one and is now down to their 4th string QB which is bad news.  The Golden Gophers are -13 in this one just on Maryland's QB situation.  I like Minnesota at home.  Minn 24 Maryland 6

Northwestern at Wisconsin:  The Wildcats have been disappointing this year which includes a blow out loss to Duke.  Wisconsin just keeps rolling on.  Wisky is favored by 14.5, this game shouldn't be close.   Wisconsin 31 Northwestern 13

OSU at Rutgers:  Why do they put these blowouts on at night?  OSU is -30.  OSU 50 Rutgers 7

Nebraska at Illinois:  Both programs are 2-2 and not heading anywhere fast.  I think Mike Riley is in trouble if he comes home with a loss.  They are -5.5 favorite.   Nebraska 14 Illinois 10

  • Michigan assistant coaches where on the road yesterday during the bye week.   Don Brown was in West Bloomfield and Jay Harbaugh was in St. Louis.

  • 5-star wing RJ Barrett is no longer visiting Ann Arbor this weekend.

  • Michigan has made contact with 2018 three-star TE Tommy Tremble.  Tommy's top schools and offers are ND, Georgia, Tennessee and UCLA.   We will see if Michigan offers.

Wolverine Wednesday: The One Reason For O'Korn

Many Michigan fans are wondering if Wilton is healthy who would be the starting QB?  John or Wilton?

I would say a large number of fans are supporting John since he seemed to make quick reads, was athletic in the pocket,  hit the tight ends, and was able to score in the red zone.    All things that Wilton was struggling with.   I was having this debate in my own head on Sunday and then clarity came from a strange place.   I was watching the Red Zone and Tony Romo made a comment that made it crystal clear that John is the choice.

He said that while at Dallas the Cowboys researched data (from the NFL) for 5 years on what made a successful offense.   Tony said the #1 reason was that mobile QB's in the red zone could throw outside of the pocket and score TD's.   That is an O'Korn strength and maybe the top reason he should be the starter from here on out.

I also like what Baker Mayfield did in Columbus and John is much closer to Baker then Wilton.  Okay, maybe that is two reasons! :-)

  • 7 Michigan Players made PFF Week 4 Big Ten Team of the Week. O'Korn, Evans, McKeon on Offense.  Winovich, Hurst, Bush and Hill on defense.
  • Many Michigan fans have a love-hate relationship with John Beilein.   The biggest complaints are, he isn't a strong recruiter and sometimes doesn't make in game adjustments.   The love comes from things like last year, a run through the Big Ten Tournament and a good showing in the NCAA Tournament (not to mention the year he made it to the Finals against a dirty team).    When news breaks like it did yesterday that NCAA Basketball is very dirty, it's nice to know we have a coach that plays by the rules and above reproach.

  • Tim Brando blasted Jimmy on twitter for his visitor locker room take, saying that he would support him if he gave broadcasters a depth chart.  Jimmy fired back of course.   I remember when Tim Brando was a successful broadcaster.

  • Anaheim, CA Mater Dei 2018 5 Star Amon-Ra St. Brown will visit A2 for the MSU game.

  • Speaking of Michigan Basketball, they are expected to host Adrien Nunez a 6-foot-5 guard from Brooklyn this weekend.

Michigan Tuesday: Time To Wake Up Jim Delany Again

Jim Delany loves him some Big Ten and some Jim Delany.   Even though his team screwed up and put some Ohio "good old boys" referees on the Michigan - Ohio State game, Jim didn't care to address it.   He just cares about revenue and his big $20 Million bonus.   When the topic gets as "hot as the Purdue visitors locker room" Jim usually gets to it in his own time or doesn't address it all.

I have been to Purdue a couple times.  It's a large high school stadium.   I of course have never been to the visitors locker room but from the outside you could see it was very small.   To not have air conditioning on a 90 degree day is embarrassing to the University and the Big Ten.   The one thing Delany is the proudest of, is that he gives each Big 10 schools tens of Millions of dollars each year.  How they can not upgrade the stadium and visitors locker room area is ridiculous.

Let's hope Delany stops starring at his bank account for a few minutes to address this situation and fixes these issues today.   It's not fair to any student athlete from any school.

Michigan is not immune from this criticism as well.   As Jimmy mentioned, the Wolverines need to assess and upgrade their visitors accommodations as well.  Here is blurb from ESPN:

Here's how a former Big Ten assistant assessed 12 of the visiting locker rooms in the league. It's definitely a problem. Illinois = pathetic. Purdue = pathetic. Nebraska = OK. Wisconsin = OK. Iowa = OK. Michigan = below average. Michigan State = pathetic. Minnesota = nice. Maryland = pathetic. Northwestern = pathetic. Penn State = OK. Ohio State = below average

  • As announced yesterday the Michigan - MSU game will be a night game for the first time in the history of the match-up.   I know Jimmy doesn't like night games but at least this one is at home and hopefully this will be a good dress rehearsal for the trip to Happy Valley in a few weeks.   MSU is coming off a loss to ND last weekend and gets to host an angry Iowa team this weekend.

  • Jourdan Lewis and Taco played on MNF last night.  I thought Jourdan tackled well and played decent coverage.  Taco had a couple QB hurries.

  • Jimmy didn't give much information on Wilton's injury except, "if they had a game this week he wouldn't be playing"

  • Chase added to his trophy case with Co-Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week  to go with his Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week.

Michigan Monday: Two Weekend Commits

The Michigan Basketball Team got an athletic wing on Friday night in Canadian big man Ignas Brazdeikis.  Iggy is 6'8 and 220 pounds and a 4 star (top 100) prospect in the 2018 class.   Iggy was born in Lithuania and raised in Canada and is known as a scorer that can play multiple positions on the court.   He just felt Ann Arbor was the place for him as he was scheduled to visit Florida next weekend.

Michigan Basketball's Canadian pipeline is still alive and well.  I look forward to Iggy being in a Michigan jersey and playing for Coach B!   Welcome Big Man!  (potential nickname Iggy Pop a Shot? - too early?)

Yesterday, the football program got somewhat of a surprise commitment from 2018 3 star QB Kevin Doyle from Washington DC.   Kevin got on Michigan's radar when he played on ESPN a few weeks ago against DeLaSalle.    Kevin then visited for the Air Force game and decided to pull the trigger on a commitment last night.

Kevin is 6'4 and 210 pounds and had offers from BC, IU, UK, Iowa, MSU, Nebraska, Ole Miss, WVU, Princeton, Purdue, Pitt, and Syracuse.   Kevin is rated as the 15th pro style passer on 24/7.

“Obviously the University of Michigan is a great academic institution,” Doyle said. “Academically it’s great with the business school which is the degree I’ll probably pursue. Also having Coach Harbaugh with his offense and Coach Hamilton and all the quarterbacks he’s previously put in the NFL I feel I fit the mold for that system. Really I think the offense they run should bring out the strong suits of my game.”

Kevin will be back in the Big House for his official visit for the MSU game in two weeks.

  • Chase wins the Walter Camp FBS National Defensive Player of the Week for his play in the Purdue game.

  • No word on Wilton's injury, maybe Jimmy says something in his Monday's press conference, I wouldn't hold my breathe.

  • Penn State pulled out a win against Iowa on Saturday.  Barkley is now the leading candidate for the Heisman trophy, which he should be. He is freak running back and might be the best player in the college football.   Playing in Happy Valley at night will be a difficult task but I like Michigan's defense against Penn State's offense overall.

Tips to Improve an Existing Enterprise Mobile App

With the humongous increase of smartphone users spending most of their time on mobile apps, many entrepreneurs are becoming more inclined towards turning their business ideas into apps. There is no denial in the fact that millions of apps are available today in the market but not many of them are successful. Before building an app, one thing that comes to our mind is how much will be the cost to create an app. Though companies invest huge capital to get the best apps, most of the enterprise apps do not get the expected response from users.

Here are some of the quick tips that will help you in improving your existing mobile app:

User’s Reviews

The most important thing for every business owner is to know the weaknesses of their enterprise mobile apps and the best way is to check user’s reviews. The real value of the app unfolds when it is brought to the world through App store. Users share their genuine reviews and it needs to be improvised to make necessary changes regularly as per users’ needs.

Competitor Analysis

Keeping an eye on the competitors’ relevant apps is necessary to see what they are offering that is different from yours. Every Mobile App Development Company needs to analyze every detail of the successful apps for the delivery of best user experience. The in-depth study of pros and cons of the apps needs to be done to deliver up to the mark.

Continuous QA Measures

As the app gets updated from time to time, it is important to ensure that your app is free from technical issues or bugs that may be associated with the updates, which is why regular QA measures are required. Maintaining the standards of the quality assurance is a must as poor quality apps are often neglected or unnoticed.

Regular Updates

Developing an app and launching it on the store for public use is not the end of the app cycle. To make the app successful, continuous updates in the features of the app should be done by analyzing the users’ feedback. If the user is happy with the app, it will not only lead to positive word to mouth but also enhance ROI & number of downloads.

Unique Approach

Most of the apps lose their charm after some time as they fail to meet the evolving demands of users. The app should be designed in such a unique way that it can offer multiple features so that users get everything they need in a single place. Some features of the app should be different from what competitors are offering.
As we can see, the success of any enterprise mobile app not only depends on the development phase but also in the way it is being maintained and updated with time. Apart from all the factors stated above, it is advisable to take users’ review seriously and make changes accordingly.

Things Might Be O'K

Jon Horwedel, Detroit News
The late afternoon game was not going as expected for Wolverine fans.  Wilton was getting hit by a defense that had one sack the entire year and the offense couldn't run or pass.  The play calling looked liked like it was from Bo's 3 yards and a cloud of dust playbook.

What were we watching?  A loss to this up start Purdue program?

Then Wilton goes down on a apparent late hit and heads directly back to the locker room/medical facility not to be seen again.   It was John O'Korn's chance to be the Michigan QB and this time it wasn't on snowy field, it was in 90 degree weather for the Florida boy.    John took the reins of the offense and marched down the field by hitting the tight ends for a scoring drive that ended in a TD.   Maybe things were looking up?

We know the rest of the story.   Purdue then confuses the Michigan defense on basically the same play 3 times in a row and scores its only touchdown.  John throws a pick that turns into a field goal and then The Wizard Don Brown puts a complete stop to the Purdue offense the rest of the day.

Michigan scores 21 points in the second half and wins the battle in West Lafayette.  Michigan used better play calling and strong QB execution in the second half.   The defense barely gave up a yard as all the trick plays had run out.

I think we all learned a few things about this team on Saturday.
  1. Michigan's offense line will not be dominating any team left on the schedule.   Michigan will have to pass to run.
  2. Michigan will need good QB play to score TD's on offense.
  3. Don Brown deserves a raise

The first half to me was a throw away half, I hated the play calling and the trick plays by the Purdue offense.   I knew the trick plays wouldn't last but Michigan running into the line for two yard gains on first down was clearly frustrating to everyone except the play caller.

The second half was Michigan Football and it was great to see the play calling open up and Michigan be aggressive on offense.  When Michigan is scoring touchdowns and letting the defense do it's thing, this team will be tough to beat.

Cheers
  • John O'Korn who played well and in front of the Purdue OC who was the head coach that benched him at Houston.
  • Don Brown and the Michigan Defense!
  • Chris Evans for finding his stride and putting the game away
  • Sean McKeon had 5 catches for 82 yards
  • Zach Gentry for being a team player and scoring the first TD
  • Chase Winovich had 3 sacks
  • Devin "The Missile" Bush is everywhere!
  • Brad Robbins averaged 40 yards per punt
  • Watching the Purdue DC "Mr. Clean" vein pop out on his head.
Jeers
  • First half play calling
  • Offensive line in the first half
  • Purdue's trick plays that worked
  • Fox's Baseball game coverage
  • Purdue's locker room not having AC is embarrassing
  • Wilton's injury that was a late hit
  • 2 turnovers on offense
  • The illegal man downfield call on the Hammering Panda

Michigan is 4-0 and win is a win on the road.  You will take them pretty or ugly, just get out of there with a win.   I hope the Michigan offensive coaches now understand this team will not run over anyone and each defense will stack the box to stop the run and make the Michigan QB beat them.

I think John O'Korn has made the case to be the starter, no matter what the injury status is for Wilton  (Jimmy said it was a soft tissue injury and didn't know how long he was going to be out).  Either way, Michigan has two weeks to prepare and rest for a difficult rest of the schedule.

Purdue Preview

Image result for purdue train

Time: 4:00 EST
Location: Ross Ade Stadium
Weather:  Hot! 88 and no rain
TV: Fox
Line: Michigan -10

Many Michigan fans see this game two ways.  A: Purdue has a brand new coach, playing very well, looking for a program changing win, and they have their sites on Michigan.   B:  This is Purdue, we will be fine.  Can it both?  I think it can, lets take a look.

Tale of the Tape:

Michigan Oline vs. Purdue Dline = Michigan
Michigan Oline vs. Purdue LB = Purdue
Michigan Dline vs. Purdue OL = Michigan
Purdue WR's vs. Michigan DB's = Purdue
Don Brown vs. Jeff Brohm = Michigan
Overall Coaching = Michigan
Intangibles= Purdue

This is a classic strength vs. strength game:  Purdue's offense vs. Michigan defense.  The Purdue offensive line will try to hold up against the best defensive line they will see this year.   We will see a lot of quick passes from Purdue as they hope their WR's can take advantage of the youth in Michigan's secondary.

On the other side of the ball, there is a lot of talk about Purdue's front 7 being pretty good.  They're not bad, but they only have 1 sack on the year.  That leads me to believe they are strong against the run and at the LB position.  As every team will do this year, they will sell out on the run and will make Wilton beat them.   Wilton plays the best when he has time to throw and wait for the routes to develop.

Yell, This is How we start the Big Ten season if.......................
  • No turnovers on offense
  • Limit mistakes/penalties
  • Wilton is accurate
  • Michigan goes over 100 yards on the ground
  • Ian Bunting gets a catch
  • The Michigan defense is getting the to the QB
  • Red Zone TD's is not an issue
  • Michigan D gets two turnovers
Yell, I hate that damn train whistle...................................
  • Purdue's offense is keeping Michigan's defense confused
  • Michigan's running game is not gaining yards on 1st downs
  • Michigan is kicking lots of field goals
  • Purdue is hot and Michigan is making game changing mistakes

Michigan has sort of played a road game already.  The Boilermaker fans are excited about this new coach and how this team is playing.  This will be the best defense they face all year and Purdue will have it's hands full with the Michigan defensive line.   I expect a Cincinnati type of game plan, quick passes, so the DB's will have to be sound, and the DLine can't get to the QB.

Purdue will run some misdirection and even some trick plays, hopefully the Michigan defense is still sticking with their fundamentals after seeing AF last week.   Purdue will sell out against the run and how Wilton plays will be how successful the Michigan offense is at scoring points.   Purdue will want a close game in the 4th quarter so that maybe they can sneak out a win.

I like Michigan's offense vs. Purdue D if Michigan plays clean.  Michigan's offensive turn overs could cost them this game.   We don't want a high scoring shoot out.  Michigan's defense might give up a play or two but hopefully can handle the Purdue offense.   Michigan needs to get the ball to the tight ends and running backs out of the backfield. I'm looking for better production on first downs and in the red zone.

Michigan 27 Purdue 13

Michigan Thursday: Big Ten Preview Week 4

I thought this would be the first real weekend for head to head Big Ten match-ups.   Not so much!  The Big Ten only has 3 games where Big Ten teams play each other.

Big Ten Game of the Week

Penn State at Iowa:  We all know its tough to play at Iowa City at night.  We also know that Penn State has run through a pretty poor non-conference schedule.   Penn State is still a big favorite at -12.5.   Iowa won in overtime at Iowa State a couple weeks ago and 3-0 as well.   Is Penn State that good?  How good is Iowa?  These are answers we are going to find out on Saturday night.   Penn State 27 Iowa 21

ND at MSU:  This could have been considered the top game of the weekend as well.   ND has a close lost to Georgia at home but has seemly played better this year.   MSU is 2-0 with a depleted roster.    We know more about ND at this point then MSU even though the Spartans always seems to play Notre Dame close.   ND is -4.   ND 31 MSU 17

UNLV at OSU:  Ohio State is -40.   OSU 55 UNLV 10

UCF at Maryland:  UCF has only played one football game due to Irma.  Maryland has only played two and had a big win at Texas.   UCF is no joke and Maryland needs to be on upset alert this weekend.  Vegas thinks so as well and has Maryland only a 3.5 favorite.   UCF 31 Maryland 30

Georgia Sothern at IU: IU is favored by -24 over the winless Eagles.   IU 44 GSU 14

Rutgers at Nebraska:  Nebraska has lost two weeks in a row and reeling at the moment.   Rutgers is coming off a win.  Could there be a big upset?  I doubt it.  Nebraska is only a 11.5 favorite at home though.   Nebraska 41 Rutgers 21

  • Tarik Black tweeted out his surgery yesterday went smooth.

  • Stephen Ross made another donation to Michigan, this time $50 Million.

  • Coach Chris Partridge believes in the kick off return team and thinks we will see bigger plays.  Personally, I would like to see McDoom back there taking returns and let Crawford work as a WR.  Crawford looks a bit tentative when running kick offs back.

  • Don Brown is happy he doesn't have to prepare AF any longer and hasn't completely opened up the defense yet.  Meaning he has more formations and rush options he hasn't shown yet.   The defense will have their hands full this week with the new Purdue offense.  Don also said, the defense took 230 option snaps during the week to prepare for AF.

  • Jimmy said on the radio yesterday that Nico Collins and Oliver Martin might see time at WR on Saturday.   Martin has been a bit banged up, so we're not sure if he healthy enough to play at this point.

Wolverine Wednesday: News and Notes

  • ESPN follows Jimmy's Director of Communication and Operations JT Rogan for a day.  He does stuff.

  • Simone Biles dates a former Wolverine gymnast and was at the game on Saturday.

  • Bill Connelly points out when Michigan struggles, they struggle on first downs:
Michigan has snapped the ball 88 times on first down. The Wolverines are averaging a not-completely-awful 5.3 yards per play, but of their 464 total yards gained, 211 have come on five plays. They have gained one yard or fewer 43 times. Success rate: 33 percent — 27 percent rushing and a much healthier 46 percent passing.

It gets even worse when the Wolverines generate scoring chances. Yards per play on first downs in the red zone: 1.1. They’ve gained zero or fewer yards in eight of 12 instances.

Sounds like Michigan needs to be a bit more creative on first down in the Red Zone and pretty much everywhere.

  • 2018 5-star DE Eyabi Anoma who seems to be a strong Alabama lean, is planning an official visit to Ann Arbor.

  • Want to waste $10M?  UCLA booster Tod Spieker has donated $10M to have his name in the Rose Bowl.  The Rose Bowl will now have Spieker field.

Michigan Tuesday: Dissects The Big News From Yesterday

Jimmy did confirm that Tarik Black has a broken bone in his foot, will need surgery, and probably out for the year.

Not a great situation for an offense that is having a hard time scoring TD's.  Black had come in early and impressed almost immediately.   I expect DPJ will now be the starting outside WR.  Also expect more Moe Ways, who will finally get more snaps as a senior.

If he could come back, should he?   Black seems like an NFL type of talent, I don't know if an injury redshirt year is worth it as he probably is not a 5 year player.   If he can get back by OSU or the Bowl Game, the Michigan coaches should consider it.

Ty Isaac should be ok.

That isn't really a ton of information.  Will he be able to play this week?   Does he need a couple weeks worth of rest and then be ok?  Jimmy will play this one close to the vest and that is probably all the information we are going to get.   Let's hope he is healthy this week as losing two offensive weapons will be tough to overcome on the road.

Drake Harris might play basketball

When Drake commitment to Michigan I was very excited.  He was DPJ before DPJ as an instate recruit.  He was a 4 star two sport star and looked like the deep threat the Michigan offense needed.   Injuries and the day to day grind of football on his frame has caused too many injuries for this talented player.   If the rumors are true, I'm sure Coach B is smiling in his office and would love to have the athletic guard.   He would have two years left to play basketball and his scholarship would count towards football this year.

  • Toys-r-us filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy yesterday.  They hope to keep their 1600 stores open as they go through this process.   David Brandon might want to consider free Lego's if a customer purchases two cokes.

  • Was that the Detroit Lions playing well on MNF last night?

  • Did you see that PSU James Franklin called a timeout to freeze the Georgia State kicker when PSU was up 56-0?  That comes the week after he calls the rivalry with Pitt, "like beating Akron". Class act James.   Penn State has moon walked through their non-conference schedule, the trip to Iowa City will be their first test of the year.

  • Quinn Nordin named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week

  • Michigan is on Fox this weekend but we won't get Gus Johnson.   The rumor is that Ross-Ade could sell out, which is a rare occurrence.   Fox has a the State of Indiana vs. the State of Michigan thing going.  Michigan at Purdue at 4:00 and ND at MSU at 8:00.

Michigan Monday: Looks Ahead To The Boilermakers

The Boilermakers are a hot tech stock right now that people are either buying or considering buying.   They have a new young CEO/head coach Jeff Brohm and the offense is putting up some points.   Wall Street/Big Ten is noticing and have a chance to send their stock price through the roof with a win this weekend.

Record: 2-1 (only loss is to Louisville by 7 points)
Last Week: Housed Missouri/SEC Team on the road, 35-3
Line: Michigan -9.5
ESPN Big Ten Rank: #8
Passing: 286 yards per game at 35th in the county
Defense: Gives up 19 points per game which is 41st

  • Jourdan Lewis struggled in his first NFL game on Sunday but did have an interception.
  • Darboh also had his first catch for the Seahawks.
  • Michigan transfer "Footwork" Freddy Canteen has torn his labrum and is out for the year for ND.   Sounds like he could be eligible for a injury redshirt.
  • Recruiting news has been slow of late as the Wolverines are planning huge weekend visits for the MSU and OSU game.   I hadn't seen this reported but 3/4 star 2018 VA WR Dillon Spalding visited for the Air Force game.   2019 WR Quinten Johnson also visited this weekend.

Breaking News: Reports Are That Tarik Black Has A Broken Foot

Many saw Tarik Black take a ride on the cart to the locker room after the game.   Social Media is a buzz and a trusted Michigan insider is saying that Black has broken his foot and will be out for two months but probably the rest of the season.

This is another blow to a struggling Michigan offense.  Michigan may look to pull the redshirt off Oliver Martin or Nico Collins.  Let's hope there is better news about Ty Isaac.

These Mistakes Will Cost Michigan A Game

Michigan's Rashan Gary (3) holds on as he tackles Air
Gary Flying by Todd McInturf from DetNews

Michigan for the second week in a row played a football game that was tough to describe.   ESPN called it sluggish, I lean more to non-disciplined.    Seven penalties for 79 yards and another turnover. Dumb mistakes at dumb times.   Every time Ty Isaac breaks a long run, I'm now waiting for a penalty to call it back.   That poor kid is playing great and keeps having touchdowns called back.  Now there is a injury concern for Michigan's leading rusher, which I'm sure we won't hear about from the Michigan staff this week.

The offense needs to be taking Don Brown and the defense out to a nice dinner.   That unit is winning games for the Wolverines right now.    They better add one more unit to that dinner and its the Michigan Special Teams- DPJ with a TD on a punt return and 5 fields from Nordin.    The offense has it's head in the sand again and honestly looks a bit lost out there.    The list of offensive problems, in a word is offensive.

-Can't score TD's in the Red Zone
-Continues to turn the ball over
-Dropped balls
-Poor play calling
-Poor 3rd down conversions (5-14)
-Ian Bunting has zero catches on the year
-Wheatly has 1 catch
-Wilton is inconsistent and was 14-23 for 169 yards
-Penalties that kill drives or call back TD's

Is this the Jedd effect?  Does Michigan miss his play calling?    Which I thought was way too conservative and vanilla yesterday.   Is this Wilton not playing like a senior should be?  Is this young WR's not getting open?  The line not protecting?  I think it could be all of the above.   Everyone in the stadium knew the Air Force defense was going to blitz on 3rd down and Michigan didn't seem to have a hot route or Wilton just didn't throw it.   I felt like Michigan ran the same 6 or 7 plays all day.  Do we have a screen in the play book?  Where is the west coast offense we were hearing about during camp?

I know young teams makes young mistakes, but if this team believes in talent over experience then they better start playing more disciplined football.   If they want an example of that, look at the other sideline on Saturday.

Let's go to the Cheers and Jeers before I get too depressed.

Cheers:
  • Nordin going 5-5 on field goals
  • DPJ Punt returned for a TD
  • Ty Isaac for another good day
  • Higdon for his run late and playing well
  • Michigan's Defense!
  • Michigan's Special Teams (minus one unit)
  • Bush had 11 tackles and 1 sack
  • McCray had 11 and 2 TFL
  • Winovich 9 with 1.5 sacks and 2 TFL
Jeers:
  • Chris Evans had 30 yards and one fumble that looked like he just dropped the ball.
  • Can we try a different punter please?
  • Crawford had a bad drop
  • Does Crawford look like he is running on kick off returns?
  • Penalties are killing this team!
  • This game was close and scary for 3.5 quarters
  • Wilton is struggling with accuracy and had a very bad fumble
  • Tarik Black and Ty Isaac both could have injuries
  • No Red Zone touchdowns
  • One offensive TD by the Wolverines

I didn't see the game but Purdue is going to be the talk of the Big Ten this weekend.   Michigan all of sudden has to travel to a team that is playing well that many thought would be a pretty easy win for the Wolverines.   Purdue beat an SEC team in their home stadium yesterday 35-3.    The Wolverines are going to have their handful next weekend against a hot team on the road.   If Michigan's plays like they did the last two weeks, they will struggle to win this game.

Air Force Preview

Time: Noon
Location:  Big House
Weather: Sunny 76
TV: BTN
Stream: BTN To Go
Line: Michigan -24

Michigan brings in an opponent that you rather shake their hands and thank them for their service then play them in a football game.   I usually like to have something I don't like about a Michigan opponent, but not this week.  For these kids to go to the Air Force Academy and play football deserves a tip of the hat and a heartfelt Thank you!

They're also a pretty darn good football team as well.   One when you see them on the schedule, you think about the 1000 ways they can beat you with that triple option.

Tale of the Tape
Michigan Running Game vs. AF Defense = Michigan
AF Running Game vs. Michigan D = Push
Rest = Air Force
Time to Game Plan= Air Force
Kickoff Time = Michigan
Coaching = Push

Remember this match-up in 2012?  It ended up being a one touchdown game 31-25.  Michigan had all kinds of trouble with that triple option.   I like defending this type of offense, if Michigan has had more then a week to prepare, when it's just a week that favors Air Force.

I pretty sure each coach would prefer to run 95% of the time and with their strong running games.   This game might take 2.0 hours total!

Leave feeling good about a trip to Purdue if.......................
  • Michigan's defensive linemen, doesn't have any lower leg injuries
  • Michigan wins by a comfortable margin and looked decent in all phases
  • Wilton doesn't fumble or throw a pick
  • Wilton is accurate in the 4 passes he is going to throw
  • Michigan's running game is gaining yards in chunks
  • Michigan can punt the ball further then 21 yards.
Say, we never should schedule the Air Force again if..........................
  • Wilton is turning the ball over in anyway
  • Michigan's young defense is confused by the triple option
  • AF is running circles around the Michigan LB's and DB's
  • The AF defense stops the Michigan offense more then a couple times
  • This game is close in the 3rd quarter

I don't like this match-up for the Wolverines as the Falcons can make any team look pretty bad.   If this young defense gets frustrated, it could be a long day for the Wolverines at home.   The Michigan offense will have to score and score often to keep up if the Air Force is running the ball like we know they can.  The noon kickoff is very early for our guests from Colorado Springs and should help the Wolverines.

I like Michigan's running game in this one and expect big days from Ty, Chris and the offensive line should do well against a smaller AF Dline.   Michigan's defense will need to be led by guys like Carlo Kemp, Devin Bush, and Rashan Gary.   The young guys will have to stay with their assignments, even when it looks like they shouldn't.   I'm a bit concerned for the young DB, playing the run and getting hit over the top on some long passes.   The Michigan Dline will need to protect their knees from the cut blocks.   Win the game and stay healthy!

Michigan Thursday: Previews A Rough Big Ten Weekend

Wow, this is a really bad weekend for Big Ten Football.   The lowest line for a Big Ten favorite, is Minnesota -10 over Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders.   There are a few games where Big Ten teams are the underdogs and that is where we will start:

Big Ten Game of the Week

Purdue at Missouri:   When has Purdue had the Big Ten game of the week?  Was Drew Brees the QB?  Probably.   People are getting excited about the Boilermakers this year and this would be a huge win on the road over an SEC team.   Fox is also excited about Purdue and has made the Michigan - Purdue game next weekend their 4:00 game.  Purdue is getting 7.5 points in this game.   This is a very interesting game:  Mizzou 34 Purdue 28

Illinois at South Florida:  This is a Friday night game and it hasn't been cancelled.   As South Florida is excited to host a Big Ten Team.   South Florida is ranked (#22) but has struggled for two games that they ended up winning. Illinois is getting 17 points in this one.   Take Lovie and the points!  South Florida 28 Illinois 21

Northern Illinois at Nebraska:  I started watching the Nebraska - Oregon game last week and the Ducks scored 42 points in the first half.   I turned it off and it seems the Cornhuskers made a little bit of a comeback in the second half.   Nebraska is a 2 TD favorite.  Nebraska 38 NIU 14

Wisconsin at BYU:  I give a lot of credit for Wisconsin to travel to play BYU.   Most years that would be a dangerous trip, but this year BYU is struggling on offense and the Badgers should leave with a W.  The Badgers are -17.   Wisconsin 48 BYU 10

North Texas Mean Green vs. Iowa:   The Hawkeyes are a 3 TD favorite in this one and coming off an overtime win at Iowa State.   I just like saying, "The Mean Green!"  Reminds me of the Incredible Hulk!   Iowa 41 Mean Green 10

Middle Tennessee at Minnesota:  The Golden Gophers looked better in a nice road win over a poor Oregon State team (side note, when is the former Wisconsin head coach who's name we can't remember, going to turn that program around?).  Minnesota better be careful in this one as Middle Tennessee might be sneaky good.   Minnesota is -10.    Golden Gophers  21 Blue Raiders 14

Army at OSU:   Earlier this week if you asked Siri who owns Ohio Stadium? She would have replied, Baker Mayfield.   The Buckeyes quickly got that fixed.   I have a hard time remembering a time when a Urban Meyer team got blown out.   That has now happened twice in the last three games.   Army comes in to an angry Ohio Stadium, I expect OSU to struggle early but pull away in the second half.   OSU is -30.   OSU 34 Army 14

Bowling Green at Northwestern:  The Wildcats looked bad in week one and looked terrible in week two in a blowout loss in the SAT Bowl to Duke.  Bowling Green has yet to win a game but did play MSU a little tough before losing in week 1.   This game will be closer then we think,  NW is a 21.5 favorite.   Northwestern 24 Bowling Green 17

Georgia State at Penn State:  It's not Penn State's fault that Pitt is so bad this year but their non-conference schedule has been embarrassing.  PSU is -37.   Penn State 51 Georgia State 6

Morgan State at Rutgers:  No Line.  Rutgers 31 Morgan State 7

FIU at IU has been cancelled.

MSU is off this week before facing ND, Iowa, and Michigan 3 weeks in a row.
Maryland is also off and will host UCF next weekend.

Michigan coaches quotes:

Mike Zordich:

What unique challenges doe the Air Force offense pose for the secondary?
“Well, for us, certainly all the misdirection on almost a down basis. The offenses that we play, the misdirection isn’t—it’s here and there. Now you have to be ready for it on just about every down, and the fact that they’re gonna run the ball, we think, the majority of the time, so the run game comes into play for our guys big time, too. Those two things are the areas that we’ve got to concentrate on this week.”

Tim Drevno:

How have you seen Wilton handle the outside criticism the past week or two with his play?
“To be quite honest with you, I don’t know the outside criticism. I don’t pay any attention to it, so I can’t make a comment on that. I know that Wilton comes in here every day and he brings his A game and wants to be the best and knows the game plan inside and out and leads this team. I’m very pleased with Wilton.
“We all have things we’ve got to correct. It’s not all Wilton. We’ve got to do better offensively as coaches, as players. That’s what we get paid to do. And that’s the exciting thing is when there’s things you can fix that are easy fixes, that’s the exciting thing. And keep motivating.”

Wolverine Wednesday: Big House Blog Book Review

The publisher sent me this book that released this month:

Michigan Man, Jim Harbaugh and the Rebirth of Wolverines Football
by Angelique Chengelis

I have always been a fan of Angelique's writing and coverage of the Michigan Football team over the years.   Her writing style and inside information continues in this book.   The story of the book is one your familiar with as she really documents the Nike/Jumpman signing and the 2016 season.   What you will find in this book is the inside information on Jim's thoughts and who really came up with the idea to use Jordan.   It's a fun read for Michigan fans looking for some inside information from Schembechler Hall.   There is a great story about Bo and young Jim Harbaugh sitting in his office!

  • Under the Jim Harbaugh is a rock star heading- BTN and Amazon Prime will be documenting this season "behind the scenes" that will premier in January.   This is a unique inside look at the program for fans but more importantly future recruits.   Sounds like a Michigan "Hard Knocks".

  • Former Wolverine DB Keith Washington is at Copiah-Lincoln CC.   There is something strange about this transfer.   Keith would be getting a ton of snaps right now.

  • FIU - IU game has been cancelled this weekend.

Eastern Shore Innovation Center adds wet lab to incubator space

When Marylanders think of the state’s Eastern Shore, a few things come to mind: fun-filled beach vacations, sprawling farm land, and precious blue crabs. That’s why the announcement of a new wet lab in the Eastern Shore Innovation Center at the Dorchester Regional Technology Park may come as a surprise for aspiring startups looking for affordable space and resources in the state.

Innovation Center manager, Steve Dolbow, said he was approached by SunX Analytical chemist Barry Pritchard with the idea of a wet lab co-op space within the center.

“Barry came to me after hearing about the space the Innovation Center had and pitched the idea to have a lab that could support the startup process,” said Dolbow. “We worked together to find the funds and, along with Barry’s contribution, we were able to build out the wet lab that is already drawing interest both in and out of state.”

Wet labs are commonly used for chemical analysis of well water and residential lead contamination, as well as agriceutical product development, chemical and biological quality assurance, and life science research and product development. SunX Analytical, the operator of the new wet lab space, is working on new product technology to extract oil from agricultural hemp.

“I saw the Innovation Center as an opportunity to pursue my interests and assist other entrepreneurs who needed similar space,” said Pritchard. “This is truly a ‘build it and they will come’ scenario. The money the wet lab generates through leases will go directly back into funding its resources.”

The Innovation Center was launched in 2016 through collaboration with the Dorchester County Economic Development, the Maryland Department of Commerce, and the Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO). Since that date, the center has already reached 90 percent capacity and added over 40 jobs in the first year, according to Dolbow.

“The center has proven itself to be an effective economic engine in the community with a million dollar economic impact,” said Dolbow. “The wet lab further allows us to put businesses on the shore on equal footing with those in the rest of the state.”

Ultimately, the Innovation Center expects the demand for its facilities to increase to the point that new infrastructure is needed, growing the scale and scope of the Dorchester Regional Technology Park.

Michigan Monday and Tuesday: Quick Look At Air Force and Injury News

Sorry for the delay all, I live in Florida now and lost power when Irma came through.   Power is still out and right now I'm at Panera fighting for bandwidth with everyone in Florida.  :)

Michigan this Saturday hosts the very scary Air Force Academy.   Air Force runs the triple option which is something the Michigan defense sees once every 5 years or so.  If you watched the Labor Day night game when Tennessee played Georgia Tech, you know how hard it can be to defend this type of offense.

Last Week:  Bye Week, Week 1 they beat VMI 62-0
Stats:
Rushing: 473
Pass: 190
Total: 663 yards (Wow!)
Yards allowed: 95
TV: BTN
Kick: Noon
Line:  Michigan -24

This is a good football team that Michigan will have to play well against.  The team that showed up to play UC might be in trouble, if they don't clean up a few things.  This game will test Don Brown and the young Michigan defense.   The Michigan offense should score a few points,  if they hold on to the ball during hand offs and don't throw pick 6's.

Still its a very unique offense and one that can gain a ton of yards if haven't prepared properly.

  • Donovan Jeter is out for the year and just had surgery.  He will for sure redshirt now

  • Oliver Martin and Kareem Walker are a bit banged up and didn't dress for Cincinnati.   Jimmy does not like talking about players who don't dress!

  • Sounds like DPJ will be back on punt returns, Jimmy said he watched the tape and some of the issues were not DPJ's.

  • Tyree Kinnel was the defensive player of the game for the Wolverines last week.   He is really playing well!  He had 2 sacks, interception for a TD and 7 total tackles.

  • Lastly I agree with the point Brian at Mgoblog made about Wilton.  His issues are fixable like using two hands on hand offs and throwing mechanics when he has a rusher in his face.    Wilton's knowledge of the offense with a ton of young WR's is the reason he is playing over O'Korn and Peters.    It can be frustrating at times, but like it was said in the comments, In Jimmy we trust!

How Good Is Your Bad?

Cincinnati quarterback Hayden Moore is sacked by Michigan
Det News - David Guarlnick
There is saying in golf, "it's not how good your good shots are, it's how good your bad shots are".

Michigan's bad yesterday was pretty bad but good enough to beat the Bearcats.  This game looked more like the first game of the year then the second.    It seemed every time Michigan did something good, they combined it with a mental error.

Cheers:
  • Ty Isaac has clearly become the #1 RB with 133 yards on the ground.
  • DPJ had a nice 44 yard gain on the ground
  • The Michigan defense scored two TDs (3 in 2 games!)
  • Grant Perry is becoming Michigan's #1 WR
Jeers:
  • I'm pretty sure the Michigan offensive line had two solo tackles on Michigan RB's
  • Wilton has no rhythm on offense and missing 5 yard crossing routes
  • The offensive line struggled to run and pass block
  • So we can't punt now?
  • The defense even struggled at times to stop the Bearcats big plays
  • 7 penalties for 68 yards
  • Wheatly has one catch on the year and Bunting has 0
  • Bad mistakes at bad times for example:
-Punt hits Michigan defender when it looks like its about to be a blowout.
-Hill gets an interference call to set up the Bearcats first TD.
-Isaac breaks a long run to be called back for a WR holding call.
-Wilton fumbles in the red zone to stop a TD drive.
-Wilton and Crawford miss on a sweep handoff and turn the ball over.
-Bad call on Grant Perry's scoop catch.
-Wilton making multiple over throws or missed passes to end drives.
-Gary had a questionable call on a late hit to the QB
-The Bearcats missed some open throws or had game changing drops.

All of these things happened at the wrong time and all but the bad call on Perry's catch was mental mistakes by the Wolverines.   If you don't watch this game you might have thought the Wolverines had an easy time with the Bearcats, which just isn't true.   The Wolverines played some ugly football on Saturday which kept Cincinnati in the game for 3+ quarters.   The coaches have plenty of work on and maybe some decisions on who takes snaps for the Wolverines under center.   Wilton is struggling with his accuracy, hand offs and to my eye leadership on offense.    I wish we had more data on O'Korn or Peters in real game action.

Side Note:  Love a night where both ND and OSU lose!

University of Cincinnati Preview

Image result for University of cincinnati mascot

Time: Noon
Location: Big House
Weather: Low 60's Sunny
TV: ABC
Stream: ESPN App
Line: Michigan -34.5

It's hard to believe this is the first time the Bearcats have traveled 3 hours north to play the Wolverines.  If UC who had been rumored to be added to the ACC or Big 12 had happened it would have been a nice conference match-up.   That didn't happen and UC is still stuck in the American Athletic and fired their famous head coach Tubby Tuberville after a very bad season last year.  Tubby works for ESPN now and Ohio State's former DC and interim Head Coach Luke Fickell is running the show in the Queen's City.    Luke will try bring the Refs and the luck he had at OSU against the Wolverines to this game.   He probably doesn't want the result that he had when he was he was head coach for a year.

Tale of the Tape
UC offense vs. M Defense = Michigan
Michigan Running Game vs. UC D = Michigan
Everything M vs. Everything UC = Michigan

UC was terrible last year and barely got past a terrible FCS team in Austin Peay at home last week.  In fact, the Governors out gained UC 313 to 248.  UC offense seems to struggle as they ran for less then 100 yards and passed for 151.   We know Luke likes defense and if UC has any chance of staying in the Big House, they will have to play some incredible defense and Wilton will have to throw a boatload of picks.

Yell, Did you bring any Montgomery Inn BBQ with you? if...............................
  • Michigan is motivated to play its home opener
  • Michigan gets 300+ yards on the ground
  • Wilton doesn't take any chances and O'Korn & Peters plays in a laugher
  • The defense is close to pitching a shut out
  • Michigan is the team that gets Interceptions
Yell, Does Luke Fickell have some type of Michigan voodoo doll? if..................
  • Michigan is over looking Cincinnati
  • Luke's defense is better then we think
  • Michigan's offense continues to turn the ball over
  • This game is close in the 2nd quarter
If you run into this guy before the game, make sure to ask him, if he would like to place a bet on who wins this game.  If he agrees to the bet, put as much money as you find on it!  If you have a house, car, boat throw it all in!

Michigan has an advantage in every aspect of this game: coaching, talent, home field, special teams, the list goes on.   This would have been interesting game if Butch Jones or Brian Kelly was still in role.   They have moved on and UC really hasn't.   Luke will turn the ship at some point but it will take a few years.   I'm more interested in what Michigan does and doesn't do, like not turning the ball over and the defense trying to shut out the UC offense.    I also think John O'Korn needs more reps and we all would like to see Peters play.   Give me over a 100 yards for 2 out of 3 Michigan RB's and some big plays from the freshman WR's.

Michigan 48 Cincinnati 3

Preview of The Big Ten Games in Week 2

Image result for big ten logo
Top Game:

Oklahoma at Ohio State:  Last year OSU shocked Oklahoma and won a lopsided game.   Big Game Bob is now gone and Baker Mayfield's biggest hit came by the police in the off season.   OSU looked pretty bad in the first half and the old Buckeyes in the second against IU last weekend.  Oklahoma had a laugher against UTEP 56-7.   OSU is over a TD favorite at -7.5.   When there are two good teams, I like to take the better coach.   OSU 28 OK 24

Ohio at Purdue:  One of the Big Ten top stories out of week one was how well Purdue played against Louisville.  This is the first momentum this program has had in years and its off a loss.  They better win this game and win it by a large margin.    Purdue 38 Ohio 14

Northwestern at Duke:  The annual SAT Bowl.  I watched some of Northwestern's game last week and wasn't impressed.  Somehow they are still favored in this game at -3.   I like Duke in this one at home.   Duke 31 NW 21

Iowa at Iowa State:  This is a trophy game and clearly an instate rivalry.   Iowa is always sneaky good and think they are again.   I like Iowa on the road in a close low scoring game.   Iowa is small favorite at -2.5.   Iowa 17 ISU 14

FAU at Wisconsin:  Yikes!  FAU is probably happy to be out of the state of Florida this weekend and making a little money.  Wisconsin is -31.5.  Wisconsin 41 FAU 12

Western Michigan at MSU:  Western all most upset USC last week and MSU struggled with Bowling Green early.  MSU is -7 in this one.   I love love WMU in this one, take the points all day!   WMU 24 MSU 20

Pitt at PSU:  Pitt won this game a year ago but now finds themselves a 21 point underdog.  Penn State has a laugher of a non-conference and this should be another one in Happy Valley.  Penn State 28 Pitt 10

EMU at Rutgers:   Rutgers is favored in a football game and might beat a team located in Washtenaw County in Michigan.  Which they will probably put in the media guide.    Rutgers is -5 and looked decent in a loss to Washington.   Rutgers 31 EMU 21

IU at Virginia:  Not sure on this game, IU looked really good on offense for a half a week ago.  The second half looked like the old Indiana. Not sure what Virginia has this year, IU is favored by a field goal.  I'm going to take the home team in a shoot out.   Virginia 48 IU 41

Nebraska at Oregon:   In week one, The Cornhuskers looked pretty poor and The Ducks scored 77 points.  I don't think they are that bad or that good.   The Ducks are a -13.5 favorite.  I like the Ducks big in this one.   Oregon 44 Nebraska 24

WKU at Illinois:  Illinois is an underdog at home.   WKU is a -7.5 favorite.  WKU 24 Illinois 18

Minnesota at Oregon State:  Both of these programs are rebuilding and I think OSU is bit farther down the line.  OSU is -2.   OSU 20 Minnesota 10

Wolverine Wednesday: Quick Look At Cincy

Usually, I do this on Monday and got side tracked this week.   So we will take a mid-week look at Michigan's next opponent the University of Cincinnati.

Record:1-0
Last Week: Beat Austin Peay 26-14

Notes:  QB Hayden Moore threw 3 TD's and was 17/28 for 151 yards.  RB Mike Boone ran for 100 yards on 19 carries.  Austin Peay outgained UC 313 yards to 248 yards.  UC did not turn the ball over in the game.

Coaching:  Luke Fickell the former DC in Columbus is now the head coach of the Bearcats.

This is the first ever match up between UC and UM in football.   UC played on Thursday last week and has had a couple extra days to prepare for the trip to Ann Arbor.

Line: Michigan -34.5

  • TE Luke Ford is now trending towards Alabama.

  • TX TE Mustapha Muhammed took in the game at Jerry World on Saturday.  That has to be a good sign, as he had to be there on his own dime.   Coaches are not allowed to see recruits at away or neutral site games.

  • CA S Bryan Addison will take an official visit to A2 for the MSU game.

Michigan Tuesday: Fixing Wilton

Wilton played a game on Saturday we are very familiar with as Michigan fans.  We also know Michigan has the best QB coach in the NCAA in their head coach Jim Harbaugh.  Wilton will make great throws (3rd Quarter throw to Grant Perry in the middle of the field) and then a couple of head scratchers (2 Pick 6's).   The two interceptions were just over throws that should be easily corrected.

My deeper concern are the drives that fizzled out in the second half where the Wolverines had to settle for long field goals when they needed touchdowns.  I re-watched the game on BTN full game in 60 minutes.   It seems to me that Wilton missed some check downs to the RB's and TE's Wheatley and Bunting didn't seem to get any targets.   One of Wilton's worst throws of the day, is when he missed Crawford wide open for a TD.

If those drives turn into 6 instead of 3 (or a missed 3) the game isn't close in the 3rd and 4th quarters.   Do we have to live with this Wilton and just hope he doesn't turn the ball over or will he continue to get better this year, similar to Jake Rudock's senior year?  I hope he continues to get better as many of Michigan opponents will sell out on the run and look for Wilton and the young WR's to beat them.  I have faith in Jimmy and coaching Wilton up.

  • Are we ready to give Devin Bush the nickname the Missile?   I'm in!

  • Jimmy liked the play of the offensive line, he says that Nolan Ulizio has a few things to correct.   My guess is we might see a few guys play RT this year.

  • No word on David Long and Brandon Watsons injuries yet.  Jimmy doesn't expect either to be serious.

  • I'm wondering if the transfer of Keith Washington has now hurt the depth chart at CB.  I think the answer is yes!

Celebrating company milestones in Maryland

Hey gang,

Summer may be winding down, but our milestone celebrations are heating up. We have two major anniversaries leading this latest batch – Craig’s Drug Store and Stebbins Anderson – with 150 years each!

Located in Cambridge, Craig’s Drug Store has been caring for the community and investing in Maryland’s Eastern Shore for generations. The founder, Charles Craig, and his son, William Craig, were two of the first men to be issued certificates by the Maryland Board of Pharmacy. We cannot thank them enough for opening up shop in Dorchester County and staying in business for more than a century.

Craig's Drug Store

Stebbins Anderson, a Towson staple, has been serving customers in the Baltimore Metropolitan region since 1867. The shop has been through some changes – starting as a lumber, coal, and hardware business, before bringing in housewares and sporting goods, and eventually becoming the anchor store for The Shops at Kenilworth. We’re looking forward to seeing what Stebbins has in store for the next 50 years.

Stebbins Anderson

Michigan Monday: Big Ten Stock Report Week 1

The Big Ten had some nice wins this past weekend and I will give my take on each team and whether they are a buy, sell or hold for the rest of the season.

BUY

Michigan beat a ranked SEC team.  That doesn't happen to often in the Big Ten.  Don Brown as mentioned yesterday is a freaking Wizard.   I think he might have attended Hogwarts.  Next game: Cincinnati

Ohio State already has a Big Ten conference win and looked pretty solid after a shaky first half.  We will know more after this weekend against Oklahoma.

Maryland beat an over-rated Texas squad with a new big name head coach.   Texas shouldn't have been a top 25 team but either way this is a huge win for Maryland on the road.  DJ is building something here.  Next game: Towson

Indiana lost to Ohio State but they looked sharp on offense and will blow a number of teams out if they can stop teams on defense.  They will need a win this week to still be a hot stock.  Next game: Virginia

HOLD

Penn State shut out the Akron Zips and should have.   They have a big upside but would like to see them play a solid team first.   They play Pitt this weekend who barley beat YSU this weekend.   Their non-conference schedule is pretty weak.

MSU they beat Bowling Green, but not sure I could name one player on MSU's roster right now.   They have a very dangerous game against Western Michigan on Saturday.

Wisconsin has players come and go and they are always the same type of squad.   They have FAU next Saturday for another easy win.

Iowa played well against a top NFL QB prospect at Wyoming and have a rivalry game against Iowa State next Saturday.

Purdue played well against a ranked Louisville team and all most pulled out the win.   This is progress for this program and could be a buy later in the year.  Purdue plays Ohio on Friday.

SELL

Illinois continues to struggle as Lovie Smith tries to rebuild this program.  They barley beat Ball State on Saturday and will play a dangerous Western KY team this weekend.

Minnesota wants to row the boat but barley got past Buffalo, it will be awhile before this program is where it wants to be.  This week they have Oregon State who will be playing their 3rd game of the year.

Rutgers showed some life against Washington early but went Rutgers in the end.  They have EMU this weekend.  I wouldn't recommend watching that one.

Nebraska vs. Arkansas State went down to the final play.   That is pretty scary, you want to know what is more scary then that?   They travel to Oregon this weekend.   The ESPN predictor has the Ducks winning this game with a 87% confidence rate.

Northwestern struggled against Nevada at home and didn't look good doing it.   They play the SAT Bowl at Duke this weekend.  We will see what the Wildcats look like on the road.

Have a great Labor Day everyone!!

The BHB Inmates Running The Big House

There is so many great comments today, I decided to put them on the front page!  Well done guys!

Potsy 55:

First off great article..I agree with DPJ punt returns...ONE HAND on the ball, it was like I was waiting for ball to get punched out..Can't wait to hear the SEC excuses...Paul F. I'm looking at u..Right tackle freshman had a tough night pass protecting...After last night I will never second guess Jimmy when it comes to QB...He knows...and like u said we have about a month to get things right until games get tougher...lets enjoy this win...

Dude 1984:

Great game. Not to take too much away from the D, but I really can't comment on the defensive performance because the FL O is pretty scrubby. I did like how fast and aggressive the D was though.

What really surprised me in a very positive way was the O performed. FL has a legit D and Michigan steamrolled them. So much speed in the skill positions. If the O-Line can play at that level through out the year and Speight can work on preventing so many high throws this O can be something special.

My general take away is that Michigan is fast all over the field, faster than last season, and more physical in the trenches on a more consistent basis which points towards good things if they can repeat this performance on a weekly basis.

Onwards to the Cincinnati game next weekend.

Big35Hurt:

Here's my take....
Offense
We are starting to get the type of OLine Play that is necessary to run this offense. The entire offense is predicated on the ability to run the ball and play action pass. I don't think the WR youth is going to be as big of an issue as I thought it would be going into this year. Someone still will need to step up and be a #1 guy that we can count on to make the big 3rd down catches, but I was VERY encouraged by the WR blocking yesterday. I'm not too worried about Speight's int's. The 1st one could have been caught and the 2nd one was largely in part due to him having a man in his face. The positive thing (if there was one) about that 2nd pick 6 is that he hung in there and stepped into that throw. It was just a poor throw. Ulizio struggled in pass pro for sure, but it was very clear from the start that he wasn't going to be able to handle that DE from Florida. I think they should have given him some help. The fact that we dominated the line of scrimmage against a solid SEC front 7 is VERY encouraging moving forward. Next week we get to face a Cincy D that got ran on by a bad opponent this week. So expect more of the same. Oh, and by the way, our TE's are each limited in some capacity of their games, but collectively they sure had a great day yesterday. Lastly, a shout out to Khalid Hill for a crushing block on one of Isaac's runs. I love watching that kid play. he does so many things well. He's a "football player".

Defense
I agree with the comment about CB depth perhaps being an issue moving forward. Their youth showed too at times, but for the most part I think they played well on the outside. Now, let's talk about some of the REALLY GOOD things that we saw yesterday.
*Bush is going to be a TON of fun to watch for the next 3 years at the MIKE.
*The entire team defense is extremely fast at all 3 levels. It was amazing to watch the DLine pursue plays and make the tackles. They get there FAST.
*Don Brown is truly a genius on D. It's so much fun to watch this guy's defense.
*Gary is a beast with an endless motor. I hope we get to watch him for 2 years (not 1).
*Hurst is also a beast. Definitely a top half of the 1st round guy in April.
*Hudson was also noticeably flying around.

Special Teams
* Punt blocked. WTF?
* DPJ - yes he scared me a bit but the kid wants to make things happen and it looks like he has really good hands. I think he's going to be a lot of fun to watch back there.
* Nordin - what a start! I'm going to give him a mulligan on that last one. I was impressed.

A few questions that maybe someone could answer for me:
* Is Ambry Thomas going to play Safety? I was hoping he would stick at CB.
* Is Newsome for sure out for the year? I saw some video of him running and he looked good, but I realize running and playing in a game are 2 very different things.
* Am I the only person that thinks that John O'Korn is not a viable backup option and that if Speight got hurt we would need to look at Peters or McCaffrey?
Is Kareem Walker in the Mix?

BHB Answers the best I can

- I don't believe its 100% decided on where Ambry Thomas will play.  He is a great athlete (he played WR at the Nike Opening when DPJ had a minor injury) and could play either position if need be.  He is listed as a DB on the roster.

-Yes  Newsome is out for sure and even if he is ready later in the year they won't play him so he can save his redshirt year.   I saw Runyan get a few snaps on Saturday.

- I agree John O'Korn worries me under center.   I would have loved to see him more last year earlier in the year,  That IU performance is stuck in our head.  I trust Jimmy on this and I think we will feel better if he gets more snaps against UC or Air Force.

-Yes, Walker is in the mix but down on the depth chart.  Jimmy is comfortable with the 3 guys that played on Saturday.   We will see some in the next two games, I believe.

VOR:
I have been hearing and reading from the "expert" talking heads and writers about how bad Florida's offense is and has been under Jim McElwain but when you look at the last two year's scheduled results it's difficult to justify the criticism completely.

In 2016 against the SEC teams they put up 45 in a win against Kentucky, 28 in a loss against Tennessee, 13 in a win against Vanderbilt, 40 in a win against Missouri, 24 in a win against Georgia, 20 in a win against South Carolina, 16 in a win against LSU, and 30 in a B10 win against Iowa. Plus they were never shut down by the defensive powerhouses in their conference.

In 2015 they put up 28 in a win against Tennessee, 38 in a win against Ole Miss, 21 in a win against Missouri, 28 in a loss to Les Miles' LSU, 27 in a win against Georgia, and 24 in a win against South Carolina. Plus Michigan and FSU were the only two teams that basically shut down Florida's point offensive production.

My point being is that the media seems to refuse to give Michigan the respect that they deserve in this win. I guess we're going to have to get used to this media bias.

Regarding the CB's, this group did fairly well against a top 20 team regardless of the suspensions. They will get better as the year progresses. Devin Bush, Jr. is a good player, I'd like to see him become more disciplined in his tackling, i.e., I believe he was charged with targeting last year in a game(?) When he gets that area more under control, he'll be awesome.

I am fairly satisfied with Michigan's offensive line play. It was clear I agree that the right side of the line needs some work. They had their good and bad moments, however, they hung in there and produced against one of the better defenses in the country so I am encouraged. They will have a few games to work out the technicalities before serious play begins.

Speight is likely what he's going to be this year and we will see what and where that is before the end of the year. I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't start to see Peters make appearances before the end of the season if Speight's improvement isn't noticeable and exponential to get Peters ready for next year.

I am still concerned about the Special Teams play. They've seemed to come up with miscues or questionable decisions in big games periodically. If they don't get that worked out then it runs the risk of costing them in big games.

Lastly, Grant Perry's penalty where he spun the ball was not acceptable. And just to think that he may have done it AGAIN later in that game should have the coaches and team mates up his rear end. IMHO!!!

BHB:  didn't see him do it again, but your right, the first one was a huge mistake!
