Imperfectly Dominating

Michigan's' Chase Winovich knocks the ball out of Florida
Daniel Mears - Detroit News
The game started a bit nervously for Michigan fans as on the first play sophomore LB Devin Bush gets flagged for a hit out of bounds and a possible targeting penalty, which if the review had agreed to  would have cost Bush the rest of the game.   That didn't happen and Wolverine fans took a deep breath.

During the rest of the game, that same feeling seemed to exist at least for me.   Michigan dominating on defense but the offense and Wilton kept throwing TD's to the Gators.   I agree that the first pick was not on Wilton, but if he hits Crawford in the chest that ball is not intercepted.

Michigan was able to run the ball on a tough Florida Defense and I thought the Michigan Offensive line played well enough to secure the victory.   The story of the game was clearly that Don Brown or Donnie as the ABC crew liked to call him is a Wizard.   Florida is not a good offensive team and Don Brown proved it again with his re-loaded defense.   The Florida offense scored 3 points and had 9 first downs on the day.   The Michigan defense dominated the overwhelmed Gators offense and it didn't matter who they put under center or gave the ball to.

With a dominating performance on defense the Wolverines have plenty to work on, so lets take a look at Cheer and Jeers for Week 1:

Cheers
  • Another dominating performance from the Michigan defense
  • 6 Sacks = Wow!
  • The offensive line played well
  • Isaac with over a 100 yards!
  • Black is the real deal at WR!
  • Grant Perry might have the best hands on the team
  • Hello Nick Eubanks!
  • Bush had 7 tackles and 2 sacks
  • Michigan ran for over 200 yards
  • Nordin was sharp early with some long field goals
  • 433 yards total for the Wolverine offense

Jeers
  • Free 14 points on 2 picks 6's can't happen
  • To many penalties, one cost Michigan a TD
  • Love DPJ but worried about ball security on his punt returns
  • Too many field goals and not enough TD's
  • It didn't seem like Crawford had 1 catch for 3 yards
  • Nordin's last miss was a bad one
  • CB depth might be an issue
  • Michigan had a punt blocked/tipped

It feels good to win a big game and happy to dominate the Gators again but there are plenty of things to work on before Penn State and Ohio State.   Good thing the strong Michigan staff has time to fix the issues and get this team ready for a great finish.

Michigan - Florida Preview

Time: 3:30 EST
Location: ATT in Dallas
Weather:86 partly sunny
TV: ABC
Line: Michigan -5

It is finally here my friends, Michigan Football is back!  The Wolverines will lace up their shoes, strap in their helmets, and throw on the shoulder pads tomorrow afternoon in Dallas and get to hit another team for a change.

Florida is full of athletes but has lost over 10% of their team to suspensions including their #1 WR and RB.  Michigan is replacing a boat load of players that are currently in the NFL and need to reload with young players at the WR and DB positions.

Tale of the Tape:
UF DL vs. UM OL = Florida
UM DL vs. UF OL = Michigan
UF passing game vs Michigan DB's = Push
Michigan WR's vs Florida DB = Push
Special Teams = Florida
Coaching advantage = Michigan
Full Roster = Michigan
Location = Push

As you can see this should be a defensive battle with two offenses trying to find themselves this season.  Florida last year barley had a passing game and Michigan will be rolling out new guys on the offensive line and at the WR position.

You want to know an early key to victory for either team?  Which offense line plays the best will win this game.   Both teams will want to run the ball and throw short passes for long drives and first downs.   If either line is effective in opening holes for the RB and keeping the QB clean will have a huge advantage.

Party with Stephen Ross and Jerry Jones and a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue if.................
  • Wilton is picking apart the young Florida secondary
  • The offensive line is protecting and opening holes for the Michigan RB's
  • Michigan DL is dominating the UF OL
  • Michigan has 3 or more sacks
  • Defensive gets two turnovers
  • Wilton is clean with his throws
  • The young WR's are as good as advertised
Yell, I paid $1000 to travel to DTW for this sh!t if......................
  • Florida's DL is better then FSU's last year in the Orange Bowl
  • Florida really has a good QB in the 3 they are expecting to play
  • The suspensions don't hurt them at all
  • Michigan's offense struggles to score points/TD's
  • Michigan loses field position battles

I know everyone that reads this blog regularly knows that I'm not a fan of these neutral site games.  I think it takes the college football experience out of the game.   I want to see Michigan play in the Swamp and the Gators in the Big House, not in some NFL stadium with $40 parking.

Michigan housed Florida over a year ago in the Citrus Bowl when Florida looked like they didn't want to be there.   I think they will be ready to play this year but will be leaving a ton of talent in the Swamp running the bleachers.
Michigan is the better coached team and Jimmy and staff have been preparing for this game for months.  The Wolverines seem healthy and ready to play football.   Florida has been full of suspensions and QB controversies, as much as I would like to discount that, it does have to be a distraction at some level.   Michigan's offense is going to execute better then Florida's, Wilton is a seasoned QB at this point and we will be looking for a huge jump forward.   I also expect Michigan will surprise the UF defense with a ton of "west coast offense" quick throws and strong RB play.

I like Michigan to put up some points in this one and have the defensive line protect the young DB's learning on the job.   Either way, our wait is over and its time again for some Michigan Football.  Enjoy they day!
Michigan 28 Florida 13

For a successful website, you need a proper management of the content present on the web without relying on a vendor. Making use of CMS helps you to update, edit or create the content easily without the need of HTML or coding skills. Among the wide range of CMS solutions, Kentico is undoubtedly the most cost-effective Enterprise Content Management System that provides enterprise-level functionality for the mid and high range market with a strong security feature. In this post, we will be discussing the latest version of Kentico, i.e. Kentico 10 and how it is making a difference.

Launched by the end of 2016, Kentico 10 still support the inherent advantages of Kentico that has made it so popular and this version also come up with features that match the advancements in technology and the changing paradigms. Here are few things that make Kentico 10 unique and much better than any other CMS platforms:

  • Better Agile Campaigns

One thing about Kentico 10 is that it supports a single unified control panel with improved agile campaigns. With the cross-site functionality, data can be shared across web properties making explicit all user interactions and users get a complete view of customer’s activities in a single pane. It helps in making cross-site lead scoring and marketing much easy. Another improvement is responsive image management where users can upload images & Kentico will adjust it accordingly in the backend as per different media.

  • More Powerful

Kentico 10 is much better than previous versions in terms of usability and speed, as it can handle the huge volume of enterprise data with the updated CRM suite that can store one billion activities and 100 million contacts. Not just that, the speed has been enhanced up to 50% faster to deploy websites quickly and roll out marketing campaigns faster. The improved scalability of Kentico 10 has attracted not only small-to-medium sized businesses but also large enterprises as well.

  • Flexible Marketing Campaigns

This latest version of Kentico CMS System enables marketers to track the steps of the campaign journey effectively that visitors make while interacting with the brand. The flexibility in the marketing campaigns allows marketers to change the attributes of the existing campaign without the need of concluding it and starting afresh. Kentico 10 has made it possible to create new ad-hoc email campaigns & send it to contacts very quickly without creating newsletters for an entire group.

  • Enhanced Control

Kentico 10 supports both web forms and MVC development across the board that allows developers to have a complete control on the web development process and develop as per their needs. It also incorporates the ASP.NET MVC developer framework in both online marketing and e-commerce fronts allowing the creation of scalable & high performing websites. For content repository, Kentico 10 use REST API that allows same content to be consumed through traditional delivery channels.

After going through the points stated above, we can say that Kentico 10 is a big leap forward that has understood how marketers work and have provided relevant tools to perform the tasks in every possible way. However, Kentico 10 has few weaknesses like weak integrations & data visualizations, that will be hopefully resolved by the next release, Kentico 11.

Converting brand excitement into sales: building your business through employee advocacy

Who speaks for you in the marketplace? If it’s your ad agency, you’re at least getting the word out. But you can go much further by getting the people who work for you to carry that same message, only in a less scripted way your current and potential customers will instantly find more authentic.

Imagine for a minute that your sales team had the ability to exponentially amplify visibility for case studies, whitepapers, blogs and other strategic content with prospects and partners through a simple click of their mouse?

That is the power of employee advocacy programs that make it easy and rewarding for people to share brand-approved messaging and content on social media, which, per an Inc. article, results in a 5x increase in web traffic and 25% more leads.

That might sound like a point of debate, until you consider this: Only 15 percent of people trust recommendations from brands, while a whopping 84 percent trust recommendations from people they know, and sales representatives using social media outsell 78% (Continue reading…)

Maryland tourism increases to more than 42 million visitors in 2016

Visitors to Maryland spent $17.3 billion on travel expenses in 2016, up 2.7 percent from the previous year, according to a report released today by the Maryland Office of Tourism Development, an agency of the Maryland Department of Commerce. In addition, Maryland welcomed more than 42 million visitors in 2016, a four percent increase from 2015 which also outpaced the growth of national visitation of 2.6 percent in 2016.

“Maryland’s tourism industry continues to be a powerful economic driver for our Maryland, proving good jobs for tens of thousands of our citizens and billions in revenue for our state,” said Governor Larry Hogan. “Our continued investment in tourism will ensure we are able to provide a great experience to our visitors, as well as valuable returns for many communities across the state.”

According to the report, more than 62 percent of visitor spending focused on three areas: food and beverage, lodging, and transportation. This spending has generated $2.35 billion in state and local tax revenues. More than 146,000 Marylanders were directly employed in the tourism industry in 2016, making it the 10th largest private sector employer in the state. The industry supported a payroll of $6 billion, which is an increase of 5.2 percent from 2015.

“The state’s vibrant tourism economy demonstrates what we are doing well,” said Rick Howarth, chairman of Maryland’s Tourism Development Board and park president of Six Flags America. “From new restaurants, hotels, and art galleries to historical sites, outdoor recreation, and our beloved Chesapeake Bay, the state and its partners continue to enhance visitor experiences, while increasing Maryland’s product offerings.”

The Economic Impact of Tourism in Maryland – Calendar Year 2016 Tourism Satellite Account was conducted by Tourism Economics, an Oxford Economics Company. While the results of this report are only available on an annual retrospective basis, many performance metrics, including the Tourism Promotion Act sales tax codes, are available on a more frequent and timely basis. The visitor numbers were collected by DK Shifflet.

Wolverine Wednesday: Did You Get The New Phone Book?

How is the phone book industry doing these days?  Can you remember the last time you used one?  I sure can't.

There has been a lot of chatter over the Michigan Football Phone Book or what us fans like to call the roster.  A media member in NJ even played the Freedom of Information Act card to try to get it out of Jimmy and the Michigan Program.   I'm not sure what the big deal is on either side of this argument, take last years roster remove the seniors, add the freshman, and your going to be pretty close to accurate.   Maybe everyone wants to know who the walk-ons are that made the team?

Jimmy released the phone book today and feel free to talk a peek with a magnifying glass.

  • There is plenty of buzz that Nolan Ulizio has won the opening day starter at RT.  I hope that is good news.

  • Some position changes on the Roster:  Nate Johnson is now a DB, James Hudson is confirmed a offensive lineman and Jared Wrangler has moved from LB to FB.    The other changes we knew about:  Drake Harris WR to DB, Ben Mason from LB to FB and Brad Hawkins from WR to S.

  • The Jordan Brand reached out to me yesterday and they would like me to remind you the Michigan Flyknit Trainers 2 and the Maize Jerseys the players are wearing on Saturday, drop this morning.

Lanco Dairy Farm expands, plans to add new jobs

Lanco Dairy Farms has expanded its presence in Maryland and established a cheese-making operation in Washington County, where it plans to add 15 new jobs over the next two years.

The company invested more than $24 million to acquire and refurbish the former Saputo Inc. cheese facility, located on Warfordsburg Road in Hancock. Lanco currently has 74 employees, including some workers who were displaced when the Saputo facility closed in 2014. The company has submitted a notice of intent and is among the first to start the application process under the More Jobs for Marylanders Act, the centerpiece of Governor Larry Hogan’s 2017 Maryland Jobs Initiative, which provides tax incentives to new and existing manufacturers in the state that create jobs.

“Our administration is committed to growing manufacturing jobs in Maryland, and we are thrilled to see great companies like Lanco Dairy Farms already taking advantage of our More Jobs for Marylanders Act to hire more workers,” said Governor Hogan. “As the now-largest employer in Hancock, this expansion will provide new opportunities for local dairy farmers, benefiting Western Maryland and the entire state.”

Lanco Dairy Farms is also known as Lanco-Pennland, a marketing cooperative that was founded in Lancaster County, Pa. in 1998. Today, Lanco-Pennland has an office in Hagerstown and is known as a leader in marketing milk on the East Coast. The co-op strives to help its farmers achieve the highest possible price for their product, while serving the dairy industry with integrity, transparency, and quality. Lanco also focuses on leading the industry by example by providing education and information to its members before issues arise.

Lanco began making cheese in order to maximize the value of its 650 member dairy co-op. Currently, the company produces more than 2 million pounds of cheese per month. Approximately 30 percent of that total consists of Parmesan, making Lanco the first company to ever produce the hard cheese in Maryland. As an environmental partner, Lanco is recycling approximately 60,000 gallons of usable water per day. This water is extracted from the milk used in cheese production and is used in various applications throughout the facility.

“Lanco-Pennland has shown a significant commitment to the county with their financial investment,” stated Board of County Commissioner President Terry L. Baker. “In return, we are showing our commitment by assisting them in bringing new jobs to our county.”
