I checked the calendar and didn't realize Tuesday was Michigan NBA day. In the afternoon, Iggy and Poole decide they are going to try the NBA. Maybe this is the new norm and I just need to get used to it, but I don't think either is ready for that level of basketball.
Iggy
Pro:
- Freshman of the year in the Big Ten
- Is older for a freshman
- Has an NBA upside
- Strong for his age
Cons:
- Outside shot is not consistent
- Ball stopper and doesn't pass
- Tended to disappear in the biggest games
- Needs to improve defense and rebounding
Poole
Pro:
- Had one of the biggest shots in Michigan and NCAA Tournament history.
- Defense improved this season
- Had a few big scoring games
Cons:
- 3 point shooting was a disappointment this year
- Overall game needs improvement: shooting, ball handing, defense, and dribble drives.
- Had a very uneven year with overall shot selection and 3 point shooting percentage
ESPN ranks Poole as the 14th SG and #68 player in the draft, which means he is on the fringe of not getting drafted. 2nd round guys are not guaranteed money and probably heading to the G-League. His upside would be to get invited to the combine and to impress there. If you remember, Charles Matthews was not invited to the combine last year.
Iggy has a similar ranking to Poole, he is consider the 15th PF and ranked 48th overall. Which is also a second round grade.
If your wondering Charles Matthews is ranked #16 SF and #69 player overall.
None of those rankings give me any comfort that these guys will be drafted in the first round.
Other Michigan NBA Day examples:
-Duncan Robinson signed a new deal with the Miami Heat. He was on a 2-way this season.
-Jamal Crawford scored 50 last night as a 39 year old.
-Mo played 17 minutes off the bench for the Lakers and had 7 points
