Jimmy likes to take a QB every year, which I agree with. You never know when injuries are going to happen and your playing your 3rd string guy. Michigan is going to have a small 2018 class with probably around 18-20 guys max. Michigan wants a QB in this class and has 3 options.
Before we get into the options lets look what Michigan has at QB right now. Wilton seems to be the starter with O'Korn and Peters challenging for the backup role. Dylan McCaffrey will arrive this summer and will automatically put on a Red Shirt. The odd man out seems to be Alex Malzone and I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up at Central or Western Michigan after this season.
Wilton and John O'Korn will graduate after this year and it seems Peters and McCaffrey will battle for the starting role. Peters should have the edge being in Jimmy's offense for two years.
So what does that leave for the 2018 class? Jimmy has 3 offers out and two of three will be in town this weekend.
#1 is Las Vegas QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson who will make another trip to Ann Arbor. This is by far Jimmy's first choice but losing Jedd to UCLA has hurt the Wolverines chances and will have to make up some ground this weekend.
#2 is Florida's Joe Milton who will also make the trip to Ann Arbor this weekend. I believe Joe knows he is the back up plan and has recently been getting offers from the local Florida Schools. With all the high powered Florida head coaches now, it is going to be hard to get him out of the Sunshine State.
#3 is a recent offer to Arizona's Tyler Shough which is a clear sign that neither DTR or Joe Milton is a lock to end up in Ann Arbor. Tyler grew up a Michigan fan and I think would commit pretty quickly if he got the go ahead from Jimmy. His other offers include: Yale, Harvard, Columbia, South Carolina, Indiana, Hawaii, CSU and Washington State (and others).
This is a big weekend on how the 2018 QB recruiting will shake out. I doubt Michigan will get a public commitment from Dorian or Joe, but will they give the coaches an idea on how they are leaning?
