Unfortunately, Wheat Jr. had too many injuries and had issues keeping weight off to be more then a blocking TE. In his entire Michigan career, he had 6 catches for 61 yards and 1 TD. My expectation when he came to Michigan from Buffalo that would be a good game, not his career stats.
The word on the street is that he came back at over 300 pounds and didn't want to move to the tackle position, so he will take his talents to another program. Many thought this might be an option a year ago when Sr. left for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Like mentioned above, Wheat is a good blocker but his snaps should be split up between Sean McKeon, Zach Gentry, Nick Eubanks and maybe freshman Mustapha Muhammad. Michigan has a number of options for its jumbo package if it wants to replace those pass catchers with more of a blocker.
Good luck to Junior and I hope he stays healthy and finds a program where he can catch 5-6 balls a game!
Not much more news has leaked out and I expect Jimmy will take the team back in the sub as a rumored new offense is being implemented in the next 30 days.
