Maryland business news: UMBC, new jobs, fall festivities

• Businesses within the BGE’s Smart Energy Economic Development Program are creating 2,400 new jobs in Maryland, according to Capital Gazette.
• CityBizList reports that Baltimore tech company Mindgrub has added 21 new employees since June.
• Columbia tech company Tenable Network Security made its first acquisition this month by purchasing a San Fransisco cybersecurity firm, according to the BBJ.
• Local universities were honored and awarded this month. UMBC was recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a global leader in higher education.
• Johns Hopkins was awarded $6 million by the Environmental Protection Agency to continue researching the effects of childhood asthma, according to BBJ.
