Alsco, a family-owned-and-operated linen supplier with 150 global locations, has relocated its laundry processing facility from Washington, D.C. to Prince George’s County.
The company recently hired more than 40 employees at its new facility in Lanham, bringing their current employment at that facility to 225, and anticipates creating 30 more jobs by the end of the year. Alsco will host a grand opening for its new Maryland facility next week.
The 84,000-square-foot space, located at 4900 Philadelphia Way in Lanham, includes state-of-the-art systems that process more than 125,000 pounds of laundry each day. The Lanham facility currently services nearly 1,600 customers in Maryland and Washington, D.C.
“Since 1889, Alsco has invested in many communities in order to serve our customers and provide employment. This multi-million dollar facility demonstrates our continued commitment to provide excellent service to our customers and employment for more than 250 individuals in the local area. We are extremely excited to be part of the Lanham community,” said Jim Divers, Alsco’s director of sales and marketing.
Founded in 1889, Alsco has grown from a small after-school laundry route in Nebraska to today providing linen and uniform services to more than 350,000 customers worldwide that range from restaurants and healthcare clinics to automotive repair and industrial manufacturing facilities. The company was recognized by the prestigious Hohenstein Institute for having invented the linen and uniform rental industry.
“Alsco has been serving customers in the region for more than 60 years and we are very pleased that they have chosen to expand and add jobs in Maryland,” said Governor Larry Hogan. “Job creation and economic prosperity are among the most important goals of my administration, and ensuring global companies like Alsco can grow and thrive here is critical to our continued progress.”
“We are thrilled to have this great company invest in Prince George’s County, and bring new jobs to our communities,” said Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III. “They have found an outstanding location in Lanham from which to serve the region, and with our growing economy, especially the hospitality sector, we have great confidence that Alsco will prosper in its new home.”
“From their new facility in Lanham, Alsco will be able to reach their hundreds of customers in the region more rapidly,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Mike Gill.
