AT&T recently launched Puede Esperar, AT&T’s new Spanish language It Can Wait campaign, to help educate the Hispanic community on the dangers of distracted driving through virtual reality technology. The Puede Esperar campaigns main goal is to show people what can happen when they take their eyes off the road to look at their phones, and AT&T had reporters from Latin Opinion Baltimore test the VR simulator to help see the importance of never using your phone while behind the wheel!
The reporters tested AT&T’s Puede Esperar GearVR App, which allowed them to see the real life consequences of distracted driving, in an immersive but safe 3-D setting. AT&T volunteers also shared information about the Puede Esperar campaign, distracted driving statistics and discussed other resources, including AT&T’s Drive Mode App. The response from event participants was overwhelmingly positive, and the event was a great example of how technology can be used to encourage safe habits.
The new campaign includes:
- The AT&T DriveMode app**. It's now available in Spanish and open to all carriers. And it's free for iPhone and Android users. The app helps curb the urge to text and drive by silencing incoming text messages. It can automatically turn on when you reach 15 MPH and turn off after you stop.
- A 360° video experience that simulates the potentially deadly consequences of glancing at your phone while driving. View it on your smartphone.
- A coast-to-coast virtual reality tour visiting local high schools and community events in more than a dozen cities by year-end. A Samsung Gear VR headset, powered by Oculus, delivers a realistic simulation of the dangers of smartphone distracted driving through a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 smartphone.***
AT&T wants to help make our roads safer by reminding drivers to never use their phone behind the wheel. No text, email or selfie is worth a life – It Can Wait.
