Big Ten Football is a mess right now. OSU gets blown out by Iowa and MSU again used the elements to beat a top 10 ranked team. Those same elements arrived at the Big House and the game had to be delayed for an hour. I thought many might head for the exits but it looked like a Big and Full House with over 111K in attendance.
Michigan used a powerful running game to run over the Golden Gophers last night. The Wolverines put up 371 yards of rushing and almost had two running backs with over 200 yards each (Higdon - 200 and Evan 191). This was the best played game by the Wolverines all year. The offensive line was incredible in run blocking and the RB's ran wild all night. Poor Ty Isaac who was in street clothes and missed the truck size holes by the OLine (so was Big Mike and slot WR Grant Perry).
Ruiz was in for Big Mike and did a good job in run blocking but almost got Brandon Peters killed with a couple missed assignments in the passing game. The Defense did what it has done all season, got surprised by a few plays, made an adjustment, and shut down the opponents offense the rest of the night.
Brandon Peters didn't have to pass but when he did, he was mostly on target. I loved a throw he made to DPJ in second half near the 10 yard line. It was perfectly thrown while he was under pressure.
Michigan needs this week to get healthy and take care of business in Maryland to set up the last two games of the year. BTW, Michigan won a night game!!!! :-)
Cheers
- Hudson had a night! 6.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks and 13 total tackles
- Higdon for 200 yards on 16 carries
- Evans had 191 on 13 carries
- Michigan's offensive line for run blocking
- No turnovers!!!
- Michigan's defense
- Brad Robbins 49 yard punt and avg. 40 yards
Jeers
- Weather
- I think Quinn is hurt, he missed a XP and long field goal
- Penalties. Michigan had 9 for 85 yards
- Ruiz in pass blocking
The Little Brown Jug stays home for another few years as Minnesota is off the schedule the next couple seasons. Michigan finally played like they should have all year and hopefully are peaking at the right time with a trip to Madison in two week and OSU visiting the Big House. I'm finally seeing improvement on offense and it seems Michigan now has a QB that can complete the throws we need him to. I would say the jury is still out on Peters as he didn't need to throw in this game, but I like what I saw when he did.
Get better this week, take care of business against Maryland and lets get ready for that trip to Madison.
