Fifty concerts, 100 performances, dozens of speakers at four mini-conferences, and a 1.5-mile light walk featuring the light installation artwork of 29 artists: Light City Baltimore is a tall order for the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts, which took on the March festival in late 2014.
“This is a pretty short runway — to do something like this is a year in a half,” said Bill Gilmore, the executive director of the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts, also known as BOPA.
So how is it possible to put on a $4 million, seven-night light installation festival in the heart of Baltimore with such a short timeline?
Someone started thinking about lighting up Baltimore years ago.
