Howard County 3D printer maker wants to establish a brand beyond its Kickstarter fame

Howard County 3D printing company M3D on Wednesday debuted a new kind of ink that could dramatically expand uses for its desktop 3D printer and is a step in moving beyond its reputation as a Kickstarter breakout hit.

M3D made national headlines in 2014 when it raised $3.4 million through the online crowdfunding website to create The Micro, an at-home 3D printer that currently retails for $349. The company, founded by two University of Maryland, College Park, graduates spent a year following its blockbuster Kickstarter campaign fulfilling its rewards to those who invested through the site.
