Come play in RSA’s Innovation Sandbox

Cyber entrepreneurs, gear up! The RSA Conference’s prestigious Innovation Sandbox is now accepting submissions for the 2017 competition, being held in conjunction with the 2017 RSA Conference in San Francisco February 13-17. The Innovation Sandbox recognizes companies that create cutting-edge technologies to fight cyber threats. The winner is named Most Innovative Company at RSA Conference.

The RSA Conference (RSAC) is accepting entries for the RSAC Innovation Sandbox until Thursday, December 8, at 8:00 p.m. (Pacific time). The top 10 finalists will be notified in early January 2017 and present to a panel of judges – and a live audience – on February 13, 2017.

Maryland has an impressive track record, with companies placing among the 10 finalists four times in the Innovation Sandbox’s 11-year existence. To put that into perspective, the competition attracts as many as 700 applications from companies the U.S., Canada, and across the globe.

Sourcefire won the inaugural Innovation Sandbox in 2005, raised $71 million through its IPO in 2007, and was acquired by Cisco in 2013. RedOwl, founded in 2011, was crowned the “Most Innovative Company” in the 2014 Innovation Sandbox. Less than 18 months after winning the competition, RedOwl had secured a total of $21.6 million in funding. Other Maryland-based companies landing a spot among the finalists include Light Point Security in 2013 and SecurityDo (now Fluency) in 2015.

Maryland-based cyber startups are encouraged to compete. To enter, companies must meet certain criteria, including:

  • Having a cybersecurity product that launched after January 2016, has the potential to make a significant impact on information security, and can be demonstrated live and on-site during the Innovation Sandbox; and
  • Having a management team that has a track record of successfully delivering products to market; and
  • Being a privately-held company with less than $5 million in revenue in 2015.
