This nighttime drone video shows Light City from above

So what’s the overhead view of the first-ever Light City? Drone footage may help.

Baltimore aerial photography outfit Heights + Horizons got above the crowds at the March 28-April 3 festival. Like you, the lights and free concerts were motivation to head for the harbor, no matter the weather.

Michigan Friday: So Satellite Camps are Back

Well, that bad decision didn't take long to get reversed and now Jimmy gets to work like the crazy man he is over the summer.

Start looking for new dates and locations.  Jimmy has already teamed up with Kirby Smart from Georgia on an Atlanta camp.   If you can't beat them - join them.

  • So how was Laremy Tunsil's night?  He goes from the #1 pick and drops down to Miami at 13 after 10 minutes before the draft, a video of him with a gas mask of him smoking and a text conversation of him taking money hit his Instagram.   He also admitted taking money from a coach.   Many people thought Ole' Miss was paying kids when they had that huge (in number of stars) recruiting class 3 or 4 years ago.  It seems it was confirmed last night.

  • So why has OSU been so dominate over the past few years?  I think last night's 5 first round draft picks was another sign.   I'm thankful everyday for Jimmy!  The couldn't cook rumor didn't seem to effect Eli Apple's draft staus at pick #10.  Let's hope we see some Wolverines go today.

  • Da’Shawn Hand's DL coach at Alabama is resigning due to possible recruiting violations.   That interesting - maybe it wasn't that hurricane simulator?

  • There seems to be a lot excitement over Michigan Basketball's recruitment of MI SF Jamal Cain, who visited and got offered this week.   He is a 3 star guy that seems to be a good candidate to bounce up the rankings.   If you missed it this week, that Columbia point guard picked Cal over Michigan and Syracuse.  I got a graduate transfer they should sign - Spike!

Breaking News: The NCAA Recinds Satellite Camps Ban

https://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/media-center/news/board-rescinds-camps-and-clinics-rule-directs-council-review-football-recruiting-model?sf25272735=1

The Division I Board of Directors today rescinded a rule prohibiting Football Bowl Subdivision coaches from holding or working at camps and clinics away from their school, adopted earlier this month by the Division I Council.

The board members also directed the Council to conduct a broad assessment of the FBS recruiting environment.

The camps and clinics rule received widespread attention after its adoption, with supporters contending the rule would keep coaches on campus with current student-athletes and steer recruiting toward the scholastic environment. Detractors believe the camps provide opportunities for previously un-recruited student-athletes to be noticed by high-profile coaches and possibly receive scholarships.
The Board’s action means the camps and clinics rule currently legislated is in effect and football coaches may be employed at any camp that follows Division I camps and clinics rules.

“The Board of Directors is interested in a holistic review of the football recruiting enviro
nment, and camps are a piece of that puzzle,” said Board of Directors chair Harris Pastides, president of the University of South Carolina. “We share the Council’s interest in improving the camp environment, and we support the Council’s efforts to create a model that emphasizes the scholastic environment as an appropriate place for recruiting future student-athletes.”

You should read this ebook on everything we’ve learned about entreprenuers

Early users can be a key source of legitimacy and feedback for a startup. But it’s important to keep in mind that how they behave could depend on how much it costs them.

“Free users behave very differently from users that will pay you money for things,” said Len Markidan. “If you build your product and get user feedback and make changes based on what free users want, you’re going to delineate from what actually is going to make your product valuable to paid users.”

That’s one of the insights the Baltimore-based head of marketing at online help desk software startup Groove and other entrepreneurs share in Technical.ly’s Tomorrow Toolkit, an ebook on how to build a business.

Michigan Thursday: How The Wolverines Might Be Drafted

At the end of the season, there was some concern the Wolverines wouldn't have any draft-able players.    Michigan hasn't really lit up round one in recent years and there won't be any Wolverines drafted tonight either.

Michigan fans will have to wait until Friday or Saturday before they hear a Wolverine name called.  Here is my take on 3 players that I expect to get drafted.

DT Big Willie Henry:  I loved Willie for a couple of reasons, he was late edition to Brady Hoke's 2012 recruiting class from Glenville, OH and turned into a really good college player.   He also was a great run stopper at Michigan.  I will miss the big guy chasing QB's around the Big House this fall.   I will have to dry my tears with the arrival of Rashan Gary.    Willie is a bit of victim of a deep DT class this year but could be a 10 year run stopper in the league.   BHB Draft Prediction is 3rd round.

C Graham Glasgow:  As been one of the big risers up the drafts board this year.  Graham was invited to the Shiners game and played so well he got invited to the Senior Bowl.   He went from a free agent to maybe picked on Friday.   Another guy who's story that I loved.  If you remember, he was not offered a scholarship out of HS and was deciding between Michigan and OSU for a preferred walk-on spot.   He picked Columbus but showed up on the Michigan's roster the next fall.  Smart kid.   BHB Draft Prediction is 3rd Round.

QB Jake Rudock: As we know he was only a Wolverine for one year but it was a 10 win season and helped Jimmy make a huge splash back in college football.   Someone will take a chance on him for a back-up role in the late rounds as a Jimmy schooled QB.  BHB Draft Prediction is 6th Round.

Expected Free Agents include:

Sione Houma - Could for sure make a roster with a need for a FB and a special teams player
Joe Bolden- His concussion history could be a problem when making a roster
Royce Jenkins-Stone - Could find a home on Special Teams
Joe Kerridge - See above for Houma
Wayne Lyons - Didn't really participate as a Wolverine
Desmond Morgan - Will be signed at a FA but questionable on a roster spot
Mario Ojemudia - If healthy has a great shot at making a roster
Blake O'Neil - Had the biggest blunder of the year but has a big leg
James Ross - Will be signed as a FA and could make a roster
AJ Williams - Probably a OG at the next level
Jarrod Wilson - Will probably get a FA spot and could make a team.

Good Luck to all the Wolverines this weekend!

Startup showcase highlights Johns Hopkins companies solving big health care problems

How can we detect ovarian cancer before it’s too late? Can we make wounds heal faster? What are the alternatives to bariatric surgery for people with type 2 diabetes? Is there a way to reduce complications and cost in reconstructive surgery?

These are some of the questions Baltimore’s health care technology startups are racing to answer.

One year later, an effort to preserve #BaltimoreUprising

It’s the anniversary of Freddie Gray’s funeral.

There were peaceful protests before and after this date one year ago. But given how the events of April 27, 2015, shaped the conversation about addressing the city’s structural inequalities over the last year, the anniversary seems poised to be an important date in Baltimore for years to come.

The attention surrounding Gray’s death and the protests themselves was in many ways a reflection of modern communication that enables individual stories to shape larger narratives. Gray’s arrest gained attention after a cellphone video was posted online, and Twitter was a huge source of on-the-ground information during the protests. Google Maps became a way to show where incidents happened. A drone video surveyed the damage.

‘This is as close to a barroom fight as it gets’: BSidesCharm capture the flag

A game of capture the flag was running amid the keynotes and networking at BSidesCharm last weekend. But since the conference was focused on information security, hiding in the woods wasn’t necessary.

Devised by AccelerateBaltimore cohort member Point3 Security, the capture the flag environment unfolded on laptops at circular tables. Fueled by the standard hacker intake of caffeine and chips, the teams had the weekend to navigate the puzzle-based environment, and the organizers kept track of points throughout.

Wolverine Wednesday: Night Game in Iowa

Sounds like the Michigan at Iowa game will be televised in primetime on November 12th.   That is going to be one cold football game with temperatures probably in the 30's.

  • ESPN lost more talent yesterday when it was announced that Skip Bayless contract was not going to be renewed.   Skip's talent was being the guy that Stephen A. Smith yelled at.

  • Four-star Cass Tech DB Jaylen Kelly-Powell continues to visit A2 and it seems his last visit was one of the best visits he has had.   I wouldn't be surprised if he made a commitment to the Wolverines in the next month or so.  Jaylen is related to four-star Detroit King CB Ambry Thomas.  Yes, please for the family defensive backfield.

  • Three-star Flint Southwestern DE Deron Irving-Bey cried when he got his Michigan offer.   His mom is a Michigan fan and his dad is a State fan.  He has offers from both programs.

  • Cass Tech three-star 2017 OG Jordan Reid is doing a mid-week visit to A2.

  • Michigan basketball commit Xavier Simpson is now a top 50 player on ESPN's new ratings and the #4 PG.

  • Former Wolverines news:  Cato June got a RB coach job at Howard and Mike Martin has signed with the Eagles.

Hogan plans to sign bills on technology education, voting

Gov. Larry Hogan plans to sign legislation Tuesday that would launch a program under which ninth-grade students could obtain a high school diploma and associate's degree in six years, and be on track to land a high-tech job.

The administration initiative, known as P-Tech, is one of more than 170 bills the Republican governor is expected to approve in the second bill-signing ceremony since the General Assembly session ended April 11. In a nod to today's primary elections, the bills include measures to expand voting opportunities.

The $10 million, five-year P-Tech program will start this fall at two schools in Baltimore. In 2017, the program is expected to expand to schools on the Eastern Shore, in Western Maryland and in Prince George's County.

Michigan Tuesday: Nike Deal Is Done and Signed

From Mlive:

Michigan's long-awaited Nike apparel contract has been finalized, signed and dated.

And on Aug. 1, 2016, Michigan's athletic department will begin a partnership with Nike that will pay the university at least $173.8 million through 2031 (if Michigan extends the deal completely). If Michigan does not extend the deal, the contract will run through at least 2027.
The figure of $173.8 million is a bit higher than the originally reported number of $169 million that was floated last July.

In the official contract, Michigan will be paid a total of $85 million in Nike apparel and products through the full length of the 15 years, and a total of $88.8 million in base compensation. That figure includes a $12,000,000 lump sum payment made by Nike to Michigan within 10 days of the completed agreement.

The contract was officially signed and dated by Nike executives and Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel on March 16.

  • Ann Arbor resident and ESPN legend Mike Tirico is rumored to be leaving the world-wide leader and heading to NBC.   Not sure how he would work into Sunday Night Football but he for sure will be tagged for some golf events, I'm sure.    I will miss Mike calling Michigan Football and Basketball games.

  • Free Tom Brady - Did you hear his suspension got re-instated yesterday?  Will this story never end?  Hasn't everybody paid enough money for lawyers because a few balls didn't have enough air in them?   What a huge waste of time and money.

  • OG Darnell Ewell has a top five of Alabama, Clemson, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State. He hopes to make a decision before his senior season starts.

Maryland Business Works Program Returns

Guest feature: Maureen O’Connor and Summar Goodman manage communications for the Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation. Follow DLLR on Facebook and Twitter.

The Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation has announced the return of the Maryland Business Works Program, the highly successful worker training program.

With an initial investment of $500,000 in business engagement funds, the Maryland Department of Labor is eager to partner with Maryland’s businesses to support employer strategies for retention, growth and expansion.

“With the addition of 63,200 jobs, Maryland has gone from last to first in the Mid-Atlantic region and added more jobs than any other state in the country,” said Governor Hogan. “Under our administration, Maryland is now a more business friendly state and programs such as Maryland Business Works, that emphasize skills training, will only help to continue to grow our private sector and Maryland’s economy.”

“The Maryland Business Works Program is just one of the many ways the Maryland Department of Labor is supporting local businesses and workers by creating innovative training opportunities,” said Maryland Labor Secretary Kelly M. Schulz.

Participation in the program requires a dollar-for-dollar match by the employer, which will result in an overall investment of $1 million in training. Training funds may be used to upgrade the skills of current employees while also creating opportunities for new hires in in-demand occupations and skills.

Through this program, Maryland workers will gain transferable skills or industry-recognized certifications or credentials, leading to potential career growth and increased wages. Funds will be primarily targeted to small businesses with 100 employees or fewer, local and regional businesses providing in-demand products or services, and businesses facing potential layoffs.

For more information, interested businesses are encouraged to visit the Department’s website, email the Department’s Business Services Team, or contact the Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning at (410) 767-2173.

Where Baltimore’s tech scene fits in to the 2016 mayoral election

It’s the home stretch of the mayor’s race in Baltimore, as early voting is in the books and the primary is set for Tuesday, April 26.

The votes themselves will be cast with old-fashioned paper ballots instead of the touchscreen machines from last time around, but the campaign has still touched tech in multiple ways.

Elections always start with getting folks to the polls, and the Bmore Vot.es campaign has been looking to encourage businesses to give their employees time to exercise their civic duty.

Loople app focuses on deals at Baltimore bars

It didn't take long for Pottstown, Pa., native Phil DiMuro to fall in love with Fells Point.

Four years ago, as a local sales representative for a national beer company, the 25-year-old quickly became familiar with the bars and restaurants in the popular neighborhood. But when it came time to have a drink on his own time, DiMuro said, he always forgot which bar had which deals.

“I’d go home and my girlfriend would be like, ‘It was a rough day at work. We need a place with a wine special,’” DiMuro recalled recently. “Even though I was spending all day, every day, in these bars and seeing the specials advertised, I never knew what they were when I wanted to go out personally.”

The Case Foundation wants to radically expand entrepreneurship

AOL cofounder Steve Case and his wife Jean were always focused on pushing entrepreneurship through their foundation, but it has become evident that some people were being left out.

“When we look at the data, it looks like half the team is being left on the sidelines,” said Case Foundation Senior VP for Social Innovation Sheila Herrling. That half is made up of women and people of color, she said.

In an interview before she took the stage to speak at the JHU Social Innovation Lab’s Impact and Innovation Forum, Herrling talked about how the foundation is looking to create more opportunity for women and people of color.

Michigan Monday: Jimmy Is Offering Everyone in the 2017 Class

Things are quiet in Schembechler Hall these days. Which is something new for Jimmy after arriving in Ann Arbor.   He has been everywhere and making noise while doing it.

The 2017 class might make it to 20 spots but it should be a relatively small class.   With that said, Jimmy and staff have an estimated over 200 offers on the street right now for 2017 class, some have estimated it might be closer to 250-300 offers.    Here are a few new ones:
  • 2017 Flint DE Deron Irving-Bey
  • 2017 Walnut Creek (Calif.) WR Isaiah Hodgins
  • 2017 Buena Park (Calif.) CB Elijah Gates

Remember when Braylon got upset that Michigan hadn't offered his brother Berkley?  He ended up going to Minnesota and had a nice freshman year.  After that he was very quiet.  We just learned this weekend that he transferred to Central Michigan.   Berkley will run track and play football for the Chips.

Hudson signed with Michigan in February, and Harbaugh played a big part in getting him to choose the Wolverines.

"He's the best coach in college football," Hudson said. "You can't dislike him. He's just a great coach. When I first met him, it was like I always knew him.

"That is the relationship that he has with you."

It wasn't just Harbaugh that got the McKeesport standout to Michigan, however.
"I love the school," he said. "Academic wise, football wise ... everything played a part, and the football team is just like a family."

  • Yahoo calls out spending in College Football.  He references Michigan a couple of times:
In 2011, the University of Michigan athletic department employed 253 people, according to state records. Four years later, in 2015, it was 334, up 32 percent.

During that period, the average salary grew 22.4 percent, to $89,851. Over a seven-year span, the number of athletic department employees making six figures went from 30 to 81.
Michigan is hardly unique. It's on par with its peers. Critics point to the salaries of big-name coaches, but it's everything that is growing in college sports

Maryland can become a major BioHealth hub but its missing 1 ingredient

From Johns Hopkins in Baltimore to the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland has the talent and institutions to become one of the biggest hubs of the bio- and health-technology industry. But the region needs more entrepreneurship to get there.

Earlier this week, experts from across the industry were in Gaithersburg to discuss the ecosystem at the Regional BioTech Forum. Amid the talk, EAGB and BioHealth Innovation released a BioHealth Index showing how the region stacks up. This year, there’s also a heat map feature.

Maryland Delegation Traveling To Hannover Messe Trade Fair

The Maryland Department of Commerce is leading a delegation of Maryland companies and universities next week to Hannover Messe, the world’s foremost trade fair for industrial technology held April 25-29 in Hannover, Germany.

The Maryland delegation will be part of the largest-ever U.S. delegation of more than 390 companies and organizations. This marks the first time that Maryland has led a delegation to this trade fair, which attracts more than 200,000 attendees from around the world.

“Hannover Messe is truly a unique opportunity to reach the decision makers of many of the world’s largest industrial technology companies and let them know that Maryland provides a great entry point into the U.S. market,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Mike Gill. “With exhibitors from more than 70 countries, this show is also critical to any Maryland company looking to market their products and services to new, overseas customers.”

Maryland Commerce will have a booth to promote the state’s assets within the SelectUSA Investment Pavilion. In addition, 11 Maryland companies will be exhibiting at the show: DigitaLogic (Baltimore City); International Waste Industries (Rockville); John S. Connor (Glen Burnie); Link Labs USA (Annapolis); Man & Machine (Landover); MET Laboratories (Baltimore City); Patton Electronics (Gaithersburg); Washington Laboratories (Gaithersburg/Frederick), Phenix Technologies (Accident); Automated Precision (Rockville); and FASTech (Laurel).

A number of companies in the Maryland delegation received funding through Commerce’s ExportMD program to pay for their exhibit space. In addition, the University of Maryland, College Park and Johns Hopkins University will be a part of the Maryland delegation.

“As a leading global research university, the University of Maryland is proud to partner with the Maryland Department of Commerce as a member of the Hanover Messe delegation,” said Brian Darmody, associate vice president for Corporate and Foundation Relations and a member of the state delegation. “We intend to bolster our international relationships with the many Maryland firms attending the trade fair and with our international research partners, such as Siemens, Fraunhofer Research Institutes, and other firms attending. We will also market the UMD International Incubator, which aims to attract international technology firms to Maryland to help grow the state’s economy through additional foreign direct investment.”

“We feel that Hannover Messe is the appropriate venue for us to engage the broader international market. We’ve had great success with our product nationally and we can use this trip to evaluate the possibility of a global expansion,” said Ali Khorramshahi, president of DigitaLogic. “We thank the Commerce team for their professional and cordial support that made this possible for us.”

Michigan Thursday: More Basketball Coaching Turnover

maizeandgoblue.com
The media is saying that UD is in final negotiations with Bacari Alexander to become their next head coach.   Michigan recently lost LaVall Jordan to Milwaukee and now Bacari to the University of Detroit.

This is really good news for the Michigan program as it needs some "fresh" voices and some defensive coaching expertise.   It's also good to have a Coach B coaching tree as these two with some success could be considered candidates for Michigan when Coach B decides to retire in a few years.

Bacari played and graduated from UD, so it's a really good fit.   Look for Coach B to fill both coaching spots next month.

  • 2017 IMG Academy 4-star DE Josh Kaindoh has Michigan, OSU, PSU and ND in his top 4.

  • The PAC 12 is now saying they voted the wrong way in the Satellite Camp vote.

  • This guy from CBS Sports calls Michigan O-Line U.  I can see that historically but we haven't been anywhere near that the last 5 years or so.   Under Jimmy, expect the Wolverines to be TE U.

Sparkypants teases new strategy game

Sparkypants offered the first look at a game that’s been in development for more than a year.

The Station North-based studio revealed a teaser for Dropzone this week, a desktop real-time strategy game that is being published by Gameforge in the western hemisphere.

The trailer says the game is set on a distant moon. It has “thousands of options” to create weapon rigs with specific software and gear to engage in 15-minute battles. PC Gamer got to give it a try, and reports that players control three rigs, but the game is “uniquely” a 1v1 strategy game.

Board Formed for Maryland Public-Private Marketing Organization

Fourteen professionals with diverse expertise in business, economic development and marketing have been named by Governor Larry Hogan to a new organization that will help drive Maryland’s branding and marketing efforts to attract businesses, create jobs and grow the state’s economy.

The Maryland Public-Private Partnership (P3) Marketing Corporation, working with the Maryland Department of Commerce, was created to develop a branding strategy for the state, market the state’s assets and encourage the location and growth of new businesses in the state. Governor Hogan included $1 million to initially fund the P3 in his FY2017 budget. Board members represent various regions of the state – from Western Maryland to the Eastern Shore – in the areas of business, economic development, labor, non-profit organizations, marketing and advertising, and public relations and communications.

“Over the past 16 months, our administration has worked hard to boost Maryland’s economy, moving all the way up to first in the nation for job growth in the latest jobs report,” said Governor Hogan. “This group will play an important role in the promotion of our state as the ideal place to start a business, raise a family and enjoy an excellent quality of life.”

Governor Hogan’s 14 board appointees, all of whom have been confirmed by the Maryland Senate, are:

  • Henry Fawell, founder and president, Campfire Communications
  • Julie Garner, director of government affairs, AstraZeneca
  • Keasha Haythe, president and CEO, Zoe Economic Development Group, LLC
  • Joshua Martin, controller, Volvo Group
  • Ammanuel Moore, economic development manager, BGE
  • Captain Eric Nielsen, president, Association of Maryland Pilots
  • Paul Nolan, vice president of tax and government affairs, McCormick & Co., Inc.
  • Leonard Raley, president and CEO, University System of Maryland Foundation
  • David Rodich, executive director, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 500
  • Tom Sadowski, president and CEO, Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore
  • Marcus Stephens, executive creative director, Plank Industries
  • Angela Sweeney, vice president and chief marketing officer, Peterson Companies
  • Aaron Tomarchio, vice president of corporate affairs, Tradepoint Atlantic
  • Laura Van Eperen, CEO, Van Eperen

Additional members of the Board include Maryland Secretary of Commerce Mike Gill and one representative each from the state Senate and House of Delegates. Senator Cheryl Kagan (District 17) and Delegate Kris Valderrama (District 26) were appointed by the Senate President and Speaker of the House, respectively, and serve as nonvoting members.

The Maryland Public-Private Partnership (P3) Marketing Corporation was created through legislation reorganizing the Maryland Department of Commerce that was passed by the legislature during the 2015 session and was signed into law by Governor Hogan. This legislation was based upon recommendations of the Maryland Economic Development and Business Climate Commission, more commonly known as the Augustine Commission.

“The restructuring to the Department of Commerce is all about increasing our outreach and responsiveness and boosting Maryland’s profile in the marketplace,” said Secretary Gill. “Combined with our emphasis on customer service, enhancing the marketing of Maryland as a pro-business and asset-rich state will have a positive impact on our efforts to bring more business to Maryland.”

Groove hires UK-based Jim Banks to lead paid media team

Groove now has a transatlantic commuter among its ranks.

The digital agency recently hired UK-based Jim Banks to head up its paid media operation. He will be a regular presence in Baltimore, and also help to grow the company’s European presence, the company said.

Banks is a frequent speaker on paid media, which represents the digital marketing tools such as display ads, Google AdWords or promoted posts that cost money to display.

In 2000, Banks founded the paid search agency Web Diversity, which was acquired in 2006 by Think Partnership. He most recently worked as Global Head of Biddable Media at Cheapflights.

Secretary Gill: Success in Maryland

Video produced by Brian Fisher

We are leading the country in job growth!

Last week, the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation announced that Maryland added 19,300 jobs in March, outpacing every other state in the nation in both growth as well as the number of new jobs added—a significant feat for a small state like Maryland.

Maryland’s growth was trailed by Ohio (18,300 jobs) and New Jersey (17,300 jobs), with Pennsylvania and Illinois rounding out the top five.

Under the leadership of Governor Larry Hogan, our commitment to fostering a better, friendlier business environment is paying off. We are creating jobs. We are putting hard-working people back into good jobs. And we will continue doing this to keep Maryland at #1.

With this great news, I am excited to kick off a new video series called “Success in Maryland.”

We talked to you – the business community – about what makes Maryland a great place to do business. These videos feature your responses, from our talented workforce to our unsurpassed quality of life. Check out the first compilation in the above video.

Stay tuned for more Maryland success stories coming soon. In the meantime, share your story with us on social media using the hashtag #SuccessInMaryland.

-Mike

Wolverine Wednesday: Fox Sports and Rutgers News

It seems the Big Ten is close to making a deal for 50% of it's football games and basketball games.  Per the Sports Business Daily:

Fox is close to signing a deal that gives it half of the Big Ten’s available media rights package, according to several sources. Deal terms still are flexible – both in terms of money and rights. However, the two sides have agreed on basic terms that will give Fox the rights to around 25 football games and 50 basketball games that it will carry on both the broadcast channel and FS1 starting in the fall of '17. The deal runs six years and could cost Fox as much as $250M per year, depending on the amount of rights the Big Ten conference puts in its second package.

The Fox deal essentially is half of the package of games that had been with ESPN (as part of a 10-year, $1B deal that expires next spring) and CBS (as part of a 6-year, $72M basketball-only deal that also expires next spring). The Big Ten will return to the market to solicit bids on the second half of the package. The conference has the flexibility to allow for another network or two to pick up that half. ESPN will be one of several TV networks engaged for the second half of the Big Ten’s package, along with the usual suspects of CBS, NBC and Turner.

The second package also is expected to include around 25 football and 50 basketball games. The package also could include rights to the football championship games every other year, though sources caution that the rights in the second package are flexible and could include more – or less – games
.

As you know, Fox owns 50% of the BTN and it looks like they are looking to find a deal for their struggling Fox Sports 1 network.  Rumors are that Fox Sports 1 is going to have a significant lay off soon.   If this gives us more Gus Johnson on Michigan games, I'm for it!

Jimmy and Staff have done an incredible job recruiting NJ while at Michigan.   It all started with a Brady Hoke recruit in Jabrill Peppers and was headlined with #1 recruit in the nation Rashan Gary last year.   Rutgers hired OSU DC Chris Ash this off season and he has made recruiting in his backyard his #1 priority.

A recent Rutgers commitment from NJ RB/slot Bo Melton got this photo shop Instagram picture:

If you can't see it in the photo it says: Sorry Coach Harbaugh, I don't follow, I lead.

Yes, he had a Michigan offer but Michigan is already set at RB in the 2017 class, so not really a big loss for a guy that probably didn't even have a committable offer at this point.  Then 2017 NJ OT Micah Clark commits to Rutgers as well last night.   Michigan was considered to be in play for the 4 star tackle.  This one is considered a loss on the recruiting trail.

  • Spike is considering Purdue, Wichita State, Indiana, Texas A&M, Syracuse, USC & Milwaukee for his grad transfer year.

Eli Rosenbloom, who founded FR Conversions in 2000, describes his company as a family and this week’s ribbon-cutting ceremony was indeed a family affair. Joined by his wife and children — and with many of the company’s 90 employees looking on — Rosenbloom cut the ribbon to officially open FR Conversions’ new headquarters in Westminster, Md. With the mission of making mobility affordable, the company converts standard vans to accommodate wheelchairs and stretchers.
