Open Works drone partnership aims to help kids score jobs in growing industry

Want to learn how to make and fly your own drone?

Commercial and recreational drone use has been a growing international trend. Professional services company PricewaterhouseCoopers has predicted the drone industry will be worth nearly $127 billion by 2020. And according to the Association for Unmanned Aerial Systems International, the use of commercial drones will create close to 70,000 overall jobs in the U.S. by 2018.

The Open Works makerspace is trying to bring some of those job opportunities to Baltimore through a new partnership with Global Air Media, a Baltimore drone company that specializes in aerial cinematography and mapping services. The company will host workshops for young people and adults in drone construction, piloting and photography.

Global Air Media will also be given studio space at Open Works to build and administer Baltimore's first drone-racing course.
