Michigan Doesn't Peter Out - They Peters In

Michigan quarterback Brandon Peters throws a pass in
John Grelick, Det News
It seems like I have had this feeling already this year. A back-up QB enters the game and give the Michigan offense life when it looked lifeless.

It was O'Korn at Purdue but this time it was Peters over Rutgers at the Big House.  JOK couldn't have played any worse to start the game,  he threw a terrible pick, fumbled two snaps, and completed 3 balls for 13 yards.

Lets be honest, Brandon Peters didn't light the world on fire but a strong running game with his 124 yards passing was enough to knock out Rutgers.   What he did do was look confident in the pocket,  threw an accurate ball, and moved the Michigan offense.   The real stars of the game was both lines.

The O line was got two Michigan RB's over 100 yards and 334 yards on offense with no sacks.
The defensive line had 5 sacks, 11 TFL's and held Rutgers to 94 yards rushing.

Yes, it was Rutgers and yes it got a little weird when it was 7-7 but lets hope this was a glimpse of Michigan's future.  Peters will have some redshirt freshman moments but from what we saw today he sure looked comfortable under center.

Cheers
  • Brandon Peters
  • 2 Michigan RB's over 100 yards
  • Michigan offensive line!
  • Michigan Defensive line
  • Solid play calling when Peters got in the game
  • Kareem Walker looked really good
  • Devin "The Missile" Bush with 11 tackles
  • Gary and Hurst were un-blockable
Jeers
  • Slow start
  • Terrible play call on 2nd and 18 early
  • 7-7 in 2nd Quarter
  • Injuries to Big Mike and Kareem Walker
  • Losing the turnover battle
  • Couple bad penalties

We need to be careful knighting Peters but I liked how steady he looked.  He didn't play nervous and seemed confident out there.  Maybe his quiet personality and his presumed lack of leadership, actually translate well on the field because he doesn't get rattled.

Michigan took care of business today and maybe we have seen the QB of the future.  Jimmy has already named him the starter for next weeks night game for the Little Brown Jug.   Let's hope Jimmy has a couple 7:30 practices this week to get the Wolverines ready for another night game.
