More cities, states and employers sign on to TechHire program to meet workforce needs

The White House prepared for President Barack Obama’s Friday visit to South by Southwest by announcing new initiatives to train more workers for technology jobs.

Here are the highlights:

  • Fifteen additional communities, ranging from Atlanta to the state of Hawaii, have agreed to participate in the TechHire program. Through this program, employers work with communities to accelerate training of workers in the skills they need through programs such as coding bootcamps and online training. The new commitments mean that 50 communities and 600 employers are participating in the TechHire program, which was launched a year ago. Baltimore was named a member of the White House program in November. The initiative gives cities access to $100 million worth of federal grants.
