Hundreds of Baltimore High School Students Encouraged To Pursue Tech Careers Through AT&T Aspire Mentoring Academy

AT&T reached its goal of 1 million hours of mentoring globally, which also helped local high school student here in Baltimore.

In Maryland AT&T Aspire Mentoring Academy has provided 8,787 hours of mentoring to 938 students since 2012. Some examples of 2015 AT&T Aspire Mentoring Academy events in Baltimore include:

  • Students from Mergenthaler High School (Baltimore City) and Woodstock High School (Baltimore County) got a first-hand look at career opportunities in the telecommunications industry during an AT&T job shadowing and work readiness skills event.  
  • Students from Franklin High School (Baltimore County), Randallstown High School (Baltimore County), Ben Franklin High School (Baltimore City), Excel Academy (Baltimore City), Frederick Douglass High School (Baltimore City) and Forest Park High School (Baltimore City) participated in a career development workshop that provided mentoring and career building sessions.

These events help students reach their full potential by giving them the opportunity to learn about various careers within AT&T and the telecommunications and STEM industries. The main goal of AT&T Aspire is to confront the high school dropout crisis by ensuring students graduate prepared for the future challenges of higher education and the workforce. 

Reaching this milestone nearly 1 year early is a testament to the commitment and enthusiasm of AT&T employees. As mentors, employees connect with students to help them discover their passions and potential. The experience has a positive impact on both the adults and students . Watch HERE.
