Technology accounted for a significant — but somewhat stagnant — portion of the state’s economy in 2015, according to new state-level analysis of the tech economy.
Maryland ranked 15th for technology employment in nonprofit IT trade association CompTIA’s annual Cyberstates report, which ranks states based on the number of residents who hold technology jobs. As a small state, it’s not surprising that places like California, Texas and New York top this list.
More telling of the state of technology in Maryland is how the state’s tech metrics compare over time. Tech sector employment grew just 0.4 percent between 2014 and 2015, and the number of tech businesses grew at a similar rate, 0.5 percent.
